"Clearly they can," I whisper. Pain racks my body. Pain of every thinkable torture. And some that aren't thought of. Or at least should not have been. I just want to give up and exist here with her. I wouldn't be happy. But I would be closer. "We know I can't get out. He's watching me. They know I'll try to get out."
"But it doesn't have to be you does it?" Gia asks, "Let some of the others try to break out—they might be able to get away. Start picking off those monsters one by one."
"It won't work," I say.
"No—this place is draining you of your hope. Something will work. I promise you," she says, "Your daughter is strong. She'll come for us."
"I don't want them to hurt her," the last I saw her she was in the arms of the War. Frightened. Horrified. Frightened of me though. Doesn't she see he'll kill her? He'll destroy her just like everything else.
