The Duel (Year 4)

Once Professor Mulligan finished his speech, I felt massive butterflies in my stomach. I wasn't scared of Malfoy. He was all talk after all. Like tiny dogs, he barks but will shut up after one fake bite. I just really didn't want to slip up & let him get any cheap shots. I really needed to make him eat his stupid blood purity crap.

I stood with James as we watched Professor Mulligan start the matches. Our grandparents watched from the right corner with Madam Pomfrey. They were chatting as she fiddled with her 1st aid cart. Professor Mulligan stood in the middle of the narrow stage. Students would come up in pairs & bow to each other before sparing.

It was pretty fun to see the different years & houses practising. The matches were mostly for fun. Friends competing against each other to see who was better. It was entertaining to see people trying to best their friends.

"Severus Snape, Sirius Black. You're up." He called out

I looked in panic at both of them. James held me back from smacking both of them. Sirius grinned as Severus glared at him. I glared at both of them for their stupid rivalry. I was angrier at Sirius for being childish & initiating this duel.

"Why didn't you try to stop the bloke?!" I snapped as they bowed

"You know how he is. No one can talk him out of his own head." He sighed as they began to duel

I grabbed on to his arm tightly as I nervously watched. Both of them were holding their own. Sirius was playing defensive at 1st which was smart. But, Sev baited him with frustration. Sirius dropped his shields to be more aggressive. Sev easily deflected most of his shots. But, he got hit with a couple of stunners. Eventually they took their toll as he clutched his side.

"What's wrong Snivellous? Am I took much for you?" Sirius gloated

Sev didn't bother to reply to him. Instead, he got angrier & gave him a vicious glare which scared me. Sev waited for the perfect opportunity as Sirius dished out a flurry of spells. He was moving back to his end of the stage before finding the right moment. He quickly cast Expelliarmus. With Sirius de-wanded, he fired stupefy at him 7 sent him flying back onto his bum.

"Winner. Severus Snape. 10 points to Slytherin for an amazing show & tactical brilliance." Professor Mulligan congratulated as Sirius got up

The Slytherins erupted into applause from the win. Narcissa & Reg helped him through the crowd to me. Lily, Alice, Frank, Pandora & Barty came over to wish him well.

"Sev that was brilliant. Remind me to never get into a fight with you." I chuckled as I hugged him

"Thanks. That's a promise we both can make." He said as he draped his arm on my shoulder

"Lucius Malfoy. Elizabeth Potter. You're up & our last row." Professor Mulligan called out

"Knock him out for Gryffindor." James encouraged

"You got this. Feed him that stupid grin." Sev encouraged with Reg, Narcissa & Barty smirking wide

"You want me to beat up your own housemate?" I laughed

"A dicks a dick." Reggie shrugged

I stifled my laugh as I headed for the stage. I couldn't let him claim I chickened out. He wasn't getting the easy way out. I confidently climbed up the right steps as he waited at the other end. We focused on each other as the room went silent. I took a brief look at my friends & smiled at them. But, my face went a little pale when I saw a familiar caped figure standing behind James.
