Liza P.O.V
Our third year was seeming to be a blast. I was doing excellent in all my classes except for DADA. But, everyone knew the reason for my lower mark.
Quidditch was a blast. Our team was undefeated. We managed to play against Regulus a few times. He took losing fine. We enjoyed being able to play together.
Remus's transformations weren't as gnarly to see. As animals, he was much sweeter & playful to us. It made things easier when we had to run from the castle. He felt guilty for keeping us up all day but we reminded him that this was our choice. Our bodies were getting use to the light sleep. No one seemed to notice which was key for continuing this.
Sirius was going through hordes of girls. He kept having a new girlfriend every 2 months. He definitely earned his title of playboy. He kept trying to flirt with me which annoyed James. But, he was getting no where. I enjoyed our little banter. But with each rejection, I could see a tiny bit of sadness in his eyes. Maybe he did actually like me. Right now, I needed to focus on Slughorn.
"Good morning class. Today, I have a bit of a mini test. I want to see which of you can make a deadly potion. Now, you can't take it home with you to poison people." Slughorn explained which got a chuckle from most of us & himself
"However, those who can make liquid death will get the highest of honours: admittance into the slug club. This club is reserved for my best students. Now turn to page 97. Good luck to you all." He finished before rewriting his instructions on the board
"I guess we're enemies now." Sev joked as we opened our books
"I suppose so. But, it's not much of a competition." I teased back as i looked over the ingredients
"So you think." Sev mumbled with a giant smirk
"Let the games begin." I muttered as we walked to the ingredient cabinet
After that, we both focused on the potion. I got the cauldron going but had trouble with the beans. It was impossible to cut them. I wanted to ask Sev for help so badly. But, this was an independent exercise. I had to think things out on my own. I read the next instructions to get some clue about the bean.
I finally figured out that the bean could be squished. I flattened my knife against it which finally made it stop moving. I slid it into the cauldron which began looking black & starting to smell horrible. After that it was easy to get everything in.
Sev finished earlier than me but i didn't care. I liked having the extra time to slowly work & not kill everyone. After it sat for an hour, i called over Slughorn to examine my pot. He came by with a feather in his hand. We all watched as he dropped it in. The feather sat for a bit before disintegrating.
"Marvellous! You made a potent & slightly slow action potion. This would be one sneaky poison. 20 points to gryffindor. See me after class." He congratulated me
My friends sent me smiles as I had a giant grin. Slughorn went to other tables to check their potions. Sev had the perfect potion & received 25 points. He was also asked to stay after class. Narcissa had a good potion while Malfoys was a disaster. We had to leave the room while Slughorn aired it out.
"I must say that all of you did quite well. I'm proud to call all of you my students. There were a few learning curves." He explained as he sent a hard glare to Malfoy but softer ones to James & Sirius
"There were some exceptional potions made today. Congratulations to Miss Potter, Mr Snape & Miss Evans. Class is dismissed." He finished with applause
"You three & lucius, come to my office please." He whispered to us as we were heading out
James: what does he want?
