"I need to go."
It was strange how just a few words could make Sunghoon feel so insignificant. He didn't even know how to define his relationship with Jake. Just a few seconds ago, they had been holding hands and now he found him running away from him.
Sunghoon felt like a fool for hoping that things could just magically get better just like that. He had been ignoring the brown-haired boy for weeks. Meanwhile, Heeseung had been driving him to and from school, having lunch with him, talking to him, laughing with him. They probably had inside jokes that only the two of them knew about. Sunghoon felt angry. Angry at himself for being such an idiot and allowing Jake to be around...
Heeseung
After watching Jake leave the room, Sunghoon found himself face-to-face with the taller, older boy. Judging from the look on the boy's face, Sunghoon could tell that Heeseung had a million questions. He had absolutely no idea what had happened. Sunghoon could almost hear him running simulations of what could have happened in his head, asking himself why the two had been holding hands when he had walked in. The thought cheered him up slightly, but he kept a straight face and stood up to leave the boy behind.
However, as Sunghoon was walking out he felt a grip on his arm. It caused a stinging pain to shoot up his arm as a grimace fell on his face.
"What do you want?" he asked with a scowl on his face as he turned to face the boy who had just grabbed him.
When Sunghoon could see the look on Heeseung's face, he was taken back. It was void of any emotion. Sunghoon didn't know why but it sent chills down his spine.
"Was Jake... crying?" Heeseung asked, not looking into Sunghoon's eyes.
"That's none of your business," Sunghoon replied coldly as he shrugged Heeseung's hand off of his arms before starting to exit the band room.
He couldn't take three steps before he was blocked by Heeseung who had moved so fast that Sunghoon took a step back before he could help himself.
This time, Heeseung looked up and locked eyes with the raven-haired boy. The look on Heeseung's face, which had been void just a few moments earlier now had a seriousness to it. However, it wasn't an intimidating type of seriousness. Rather, it was a look of a cornered animal - fear and concern.
"Did... Is Jake okay?" Heeseung asked.
As soon as he heard the words, Sunghoon felt a pang of empathy for the older boy. He had no idea why but instead of ignoring the worried boy, he replied.
"He's fine," he said, his voice a bit warmer than before. "At least, he's better now."
Sunghoon could see his words had some effect because Heeseung's face relaxed just a little, but concern was still written on the older boy's face. The boy still seemed to have a lot to say, but before he could say another word, Sunghoon walked away from him.
