"Thank you, Heeseung..."

5-year-old Jaeyoon lost his thoughts, but he knew he was safe as he felt  Heeseung's arms wrapped around him, pulling him in a warm embrace.

"It's okay," Heeseung said as he softly patted the younger boy's back. "No one's going to hurt you anymore. I promise."

Jaeyoon couldn't reply. He could barely make out what the older boy was saying to him. But as he breathed in the older boy's familiar scent, he knew that he was in a safe place.

The young boy didn't know exactly how long he had been in Heeseung's arms, but as he slowly controlled his breathing, he finally looked up to find a pair of warm brown eyes softly looking into his own.

"I've got you," the small boy heard Heeseung whisper to him. "It's okay, I'm here."

And Jaeyoon was certain that the older boy was telling the truth from the determination and anger in Heeseung's eyes.

"Heeseung... That night, he called my mom who was in Australia, and she came to get me," Jake said quietly to Sunghoon. "My mom divorced my parents, and I never saw my dad again after that... or Heeseung... or... you."

'Of course,' Sunghoon thought to himself. 'Of course, Jaeyoonie wouldn't have left without saying goodbye if he could've'

The raven-haired boy cursed himself for jumping to conclusions and not stopping to think that something like this could have happened to his dear childhood friend.

"I- I'm sorry but my mom took me away from my dad immediately and I didn't-"

Jake was cut short as Sunghoon pulled the brown-haired boy into his arms.

"You don't have to apologize," Sunghoon said, his eyes closed and his voice firm. "I was so stupid to think that you owed me an explanation."
