Chapter 2- New Beginnings

I frantically looked around for the source of the voice and saw no one.

What the hell, I thought.

Sorry to have startled you. I thought you would be prepared and exited to gain your wolf as you are now 18.

I looked around again and still saw no one. I shock my hear and left the barn.

"My mind must be playing trick on my, it must be because I'm so exhausted." I walk back into the house and flop down on my bed and pass out. I wake up the next morning to the sun shining on my face. I smile at the warmth from the sun but quickly jolt up in realization. I overslept. I jump out of bed and throw on some clean clothes and run out of my room. I saw my grandfather at the table and he looked pissed but my mind was on other things like quickly doing my chores and getting to school. By the time I get to school it's 9AM.

I can't believe I'm late, I think as I walk through the empty halls to 3rd period.

You were exhausted last night Paige. Sorry I didn't wake you, you needed your rest for tonight.

By now I realized the voice was in my head and not from a person. What's tonight I thought.

Tonight you shift for the first time. The voice said.

Shift, what is shifting and who/ what are you? I thought.

I'll answer more tonight but first get to class and focus on school. The voice said.

What how am I supposed to focus on school with you in my head. I waited a while for an answer but no response. Crystal I thought, that's what the voices name is. I went into my class and sat down but my mind wasn't focused on the lesson but on Crystal. I felt like a zombie for the rest of school until I was awoken from my thoughts from my friends.

"Hey you OK?" One of them asked and I quickly looked up.

"Yeah just thinking about the party tonight." I say as I put on a huge smile and laugh. It mad me realize will something happen at the party? I say goodbye to them and head home to get ready for the party. I put on a beautiful dress that shows off my figure beautifully and put on some heels and natural looking makeup. I decided to leave my hair down but to curl the ends. I get in my truck and drive to the location they sent me. I arrive and see them at a beautiful restaurant. They all run up to me, well try to since they're in heels and give me a huge group hug.

"Guys this place is beautiful." I say taken aback buy all the gorgeous architecture. They drag me inside and I take in all the beauty of the place. We sit down and start laughing and talking. Then I smell a strong smell of rain and champagne.

Mate, crystal howls in excitement as the sent gets stronger. I turn and see a man walking through the doors if the restaurant and I can't help but stare at him. He's the most handsome man I've ever seen. He has beautiful grey eyes like the clouds of a storm and short dark brown hair. He wears a suit and it fits him to help show his arm and chest muscles. I'm brought to reality when Allie elbows me.

"He's hit huh?" Allie says in a teasing voice and they laugh.

"I'm going to freshen up." I tell them as I get up and see the man staring at me. I leave and go to the restroom and make sure my hair and makeup looks good before leaving. I walk out into the hallway and come face to face with the man who is as handsome as a God. I look at his eyes and see him looking me up and down making my cheeks flush red.

"Hi, I'm Paige." I tell him as I extend my hand out to him to shake. He looks at me and takes my hand in his and kisses my knuckles which sends a shiver of pleasure up my spine.

"I'm Kyle." He tells me as his lips leave my knuckles. My mind is going wild wondering how he'd look with his shirt off and it was just us alone in a room. I shake my head. What's wrong with me, I've never thought about a man like this.

I decided to listen to crystal and excused myself and said farewell to Kyle then told the girls I was feeling sick and was going home. They looked sad but told me to feel better and happy birthday. As I left I saw Kyle looking at me and felt sadness in my heart. Why was I sad to leave this stranger and what was a mate? I get in my truck and drive home on backroads. I look and see it's a full moon and admire it as it's high in the sky. Then I feel terrible pain all over my body. What's happening to me?
