-One week later-

***Kelly’s POV***

I was sitting in the waiting room for my appointment with the Pack doctor. The light yellow walls and white trims made the room feel welcoming and friendly but even the colour couldn’t calm my nerves. Dweight was talking to someone on the phone outside of the waiting room’s large window and he looked even more nervous than I was.

A woman I’d never seen before walked in with a little boy and she greeted the receptionist and told the boy to go sit down.

He wandered to an empty seat, looked at me and then walked over sitting down next to me.

‘Hi.’ He smiled showing off a missing front tooth. He was the cutest thing with dark brown hair and bright green eyes.

‘Hi.’ I returned the smile despite the tension clenching my stomach into knots.

‘You’re the Luna, right?’ He looked over at Dweight with concern and then back at me

‘Yes I am little man. My name’s Kelly, what’s yours?’ He stuck out a little dimpled hand for me to shake

‘My name’s Wade.’ I shook his tiny hand and he sat back like a satisfied little boy.

‘So what are you in for Wade?’ He scowls at his mother and looks at me, lowering his voice so his mother couldn’t hear us.

‘Momma thinks I eat way too many sweets.’ I smothered a laugh

‘Oh really? Why does she think that?’

‘The dentist told her but I think he just doesn’t like me.’ I looked at him seriously

‘Ya know, I thought the same thing when I was your age.’

‘No! Really?’ He gasped in surprise

‘Oh yes…My dentist said the same thing to my dad and he tried to get me to eat veggies.’ Wade covered his mouth with his hand to show his shock

‘Maybe we have the same dentist!’ He whispered looking around as if the dentist were here with us in the room.

‘Can I tell you a secret Wade?’ He looked up at me with his intelligent little eyes, nodded and scooted closer so no one else could hear.

‘Secretly I knew veggies didn’t taste so bad and when you cover them in cheese, they tasted just fine.’ He looked down at his hands and frowned. Just then his mother looked over searching for her son and realized that he was talking to me. She quickly walked over and scowled at Wade.

‘I am so sorry Luna, Wade shouldn’t be bothering you.’

‘Oh it’s no trouble. He is such a smart young man.’ Wade puffed his chest out at the praise and his mother took his hand.

‘Oh? Well thank you Luna. He is a really smart little boy but sometimes he is too smart.’ She spoke as if he weren’t standing right there and I had to refrain from reminding her that her son could hear her.

The intercom dinged and they called my name requesting me to go to room 3 so I excused myself.

‘It was nice to meet you Wade.’ I winked at him and he smiled that missing tooth smile.

‘I see little Wade has made a new friend.’ I looked over to see Dweight walking next to me

‘I think he’s just the cutest.’

‘I thought I was the cutest.’ He feigned looking hurt and I laughed taking his hand.

You’re definitely the hottest.’ He puffed up much the same way Wade did and I laughed again.

‘You’re sure you want to do this?’ I took a deep breath and nodded being reminded of the reason why I was here.

‘It has to be done. I can’t move on if I still bare his mark.’

‘I don’t know if I can see you in that much pain.’ His voice trembled and I squeezed his hand

‘They said they’ll put me under first.’ He scowled at the floor

‘No amount of drugs can stop a burn from wolf’s bane.’ My stomach clenched again and I turned the corner spotting room 3. My feet were moving slower now and my wolf was pacing back and forth trying to zone out for what was about to come.

We knocked and I heard a voice call us in so we opened the door and walked into the Doctor’s office.

‘Good afternoon Alpha,’ He bowed his head at Dweight and then looked at me with a smile, ‘Luna…’ He bowed his head again.

‘Dr. Keembry.’ Dweight greeted him a little brusquely and then looked at me questioningly when I scowled at him.

‘Am I right to assume that this mark you want to remove doesn’t belong to the Alpha here?’ I nodded.

‘The mark belongs to my ex husband.’ The divorce went through this morning.

‘Very well. Please have a seat.’ The doctor pointed at the bed and I sat down on it taking a look around the room.

It was the same sunny shade of yellow as the rest of the building I’ve seen so far with one door to my left and some filing cabinets to the left of it. The other door across the room is where we came in. I knew I was just trying to distract myself from what was about to happen and I felt both excited to finally begin my life the way it was meant to be and I felt terrified about the pain I was about to endure.

I did a bit of research this past week but it only scared me more. Wolves that have been burnt by wolf’s bane have given their first hand experience and each one of them said the following three words: Being burnt alive. I was no stranger to pain and I felt stronger still but I was no masochist.

‘Alpha, could you please wait outside whilst I sedate the Luna and then I’ll call you to oversee the procedure.’ Dweight bared his teeth at the word procedure and it didn’t take a rocket scientist to see that he didn’t want this to happen but I had no other choice. The mark had to go. He kissed me on the forehead, -electricity flaring at the simple touch of his lips- and paused taking a deep breath.

‘I’ll be right outside.’ He whispered and left closing the door behind him.

‘Are you ready?’ The doctor asked as he wheeled a metal tray closer with various injections on it.

‘Let’s get this over with doc.’ My voice sounded braver than I felt and I laid back and placed my arm on the side of the bed.

‘I really am sorry Luna.’ He looked at me with sad eyes and confusion replaced the terror for a second and then he stuck the needle into my arm. Within a second he removed the needle and I knew something was wrong. His comment made no sense. I lifted my arm trying to grab the doctor and find out what he meant but my arm fell limp, knocking the tray over. The doctor stepped away from me and walked out of my view. Something was very wrong! I tried to fight it but I couldn’t move anymore. My mouth wouldn’t open to call for help.

Dweight! My head swam through the enclosing fog trying to find the link to my mate but I couldn’t find it.

A figure wearing dark clothing stepped into view, cocked a pistol and then a wave took me under.
