 ***Dweight's POV***

A faint scream had me pause and cock my head to the side.

I stood stock still listening intently when a woman's voice shouted 'What the hell do you want!?' Scrambling to the front door I stood staring at absolutely nothing, my brain not functioning enough to focus but the unmistakeable sound of a growl made me round the corner in time to see Kelly dive out of the way of an attack from another strange wolf.

These things pop up like fungus!

I was about to jump between them but Kelly was instantly on all fours and sprouting fur. Her bandage and clothing ripped to pieces and in her place stood a beautiful white wolf.

He went for her but she didn't run like I thought she would. She attacked back, all fury with teeth snapping and fur flying. She took no mercy as her beautiful white coat got stained by his blood. Her muzzle opened and closed in rapid succession around his legs and then on his stomach. Everywhere she could bite she sure as hell did.

She backed off when he took a snap at her jugular bouncing almost playfully away from him. I opened the voluntary link as I realized he was saying something to her.

'I'll kill you!' He shouted at her and I had to work to suppress my wolf and rip his throat out.

I did a double take when a ferocious snarl came from the very wolf I was admiring a minute ago and it even had me take a step back. The other mutt looked terrified but after a second of sizing her up he shook it off and growled back.

Kelly's hackles rose, she snapped her teeth together and scraped her nails into the dirt kicking up a dust storm.

He jumped at her again and she flexed her whole body to the side, latched onto his neck as he flew past her and bit down hard enough to hear the crunch. She dropped him but continued to maul him, biting and scratching at the body.

'Die you son of a bitch!' She screamed

'Tell him I won't go back!' She bit him again and shook him like a rag doll, dancing away and biting him again.

'Tell him I won't be beaten anymore!' She howled and gasped as her emotions overwhelmed her.

'Kelly!' I shouted and she stopped to stare at me. The hurt evident in her eyes as a tear escaped and disappeared into her fur.

'Dweight?' She gasped uncertainly and then she looked down at the partially dismantled wolf at her feet obviously realizing for the first time that he was dead. She shuddered and phased back into her human form, backing away from him as if he were about to get up again.

'Shhhh Kelly...' I slowly made my way to her and kneeled down next to her.

She didn't look at me again but kept staring at the dead wolf.

'Kelly,’ I whispered, ‘I'm going to move you now.' I hesitated but she didn't move or react other than slightly flinch at my touch as I took her into my arms, picked her up and carried her back into the house.

She was shivering and shaking, her breathing ragged with sobs that had my heart ache. I didn't want her to get hurt again. I focussed on the Pack link and called Calan to dispose of the body before we went outside again but if I had anything to do with it, I wouldn't let her out of this house and I'd cuddle, comfort and love her. My own thoughts caught me by surprise and my steps faltered before I straightened up and pushed my feelings to the side for now.

I took her straight to the bathroom, placed her on the counter top again and wrapped a towel around her while I filled the bath for her.

'Kelly...' She stared off into space in front of her all the while that I was busy and now she turned to me with sad eyes.

'Are you ok?' She stared at me for the longest time before she nodded.

'I'm ok.'

'I want you to take a bath, ok?' She looked down at the bath as if realizing where she was for the first time and nodded again.

I paced outside of the door waiting for any sign of her but the bathroom was silent.

The pack had long since removed the dead wolf and doubled patrols. Liam even suggested calling a meeting with Daniel to either threaten him to back off or kill him if he doesnt comply.

I had to admit, the latter was sorely tempting but i had to figure out what the safest way was for getting rid of a marking before we can kill him. If there was a chance that it would hurt my Kelly, I wouldn't risk it.

I couldn't even begin to think of anything other than keeping her with me.

Keeping her safe.
