***Dweight’s POV***
I sat right outside of the door on a chair waiting for the doctor to call me. My wolf was impatient and we felt guilty for having her go through with this.
I didn’t want her to hurt. I growled and looked around trying to distract myself.
Wade was still sitting with his mother and he looked up, obviously feeling my gaze and waved. I waved back and got up to go speak to him.
‘Hey Wade, are you being a good boy?’ Laya choked on some water and started coughing. Wade gave her a pitying look but didn’t offer her any help.
‘You alright Laya?’ she coughed some more and raised her hand nodding.
‘Momma doesn’t think I’m a good boy.’ Wade shrugged and watched as his mother got up still coughing and walked to the rest room.
‘Your momma loves you.’ He shrugged making me laugh
‘What did Kelly say to you earlier?’ He narrowed his eyes at me.
‘It’s a secret.’
‘I can keep a secret.’ I smiled and he hesitated. After a minute of thought he nodded
‘If Luna Kelly trusts you enough then I guess I can tell you.’ He beckoned me closer with his tiny hand and I could tell this must be serious
‘She said that veggies with cheese on tastes good.’ I coughed to hide the laugh that wanted out and quickly straightened my face.
‘Well, you know she is right Wade.’ The sound of metal clanging on a tile floor had us both look up and a second later the doctor stuck his head out of the door to the room where Kelly was.
‘No need for alarm Alpha, I just dropped something.’ He gave me a nervous smile and disappeared back into the room.
‘That new doctor is weird.’ Wade folded his arms and sat back
‘New doctor?’
‘Yeah, he has the same name as Dr. Keembry but he isn’t. The other Dr. Keembry is nice.’ My wolf was on red alert and I jumped to my feet just as Laya returned from her trip to the bathroom.
‘Take Wade and get out of here.’ I growled feeling my wolf rise to the surface. She nodded, grabbed her son and ran out of the door. I ran into the doctor’s room, nearly ripping the door from its hinges and looked around. Empty!
Tyres squealed in the parking lot and I ran to the front just as a black SUV sped through the parking lot, a door opened and a man with a gun stood there aiming at me. I quickly ducked behind another car just as shots were fired. Glass shattered above my head and a few seconds later there was silence. I looked up in time to see the van disappear down the street.
‘Alpha Dweight!’ Laya shouted from my right.
She was crouched behind her car clutching Wade to her chest.
‘Are you hurt?’ I quickly checked them over but I didn’t see any blood.
‘They took Kelly!’ Wade cried out
‘Did you recognise any of them?’ I asked Laya but she shook her head
‘That funny doctor was carrying her Alpha.’ Wade’s eyes were full of tears and he hugged his mother again.
‘Get Wade back to the Pack house and stay there.’ She nodded eagerly, got in her car and they were off in the opposite direction. I looked over at my car and saw the tires were all deflated. I crouched next to it and inspected the damage. Slashed.
I flipped my phone open and hit speed dial. My Pack link wouldn’t work this far away from the Pack anyway.
Three rings later Liam answered.
‘I know you’re busy with your mate Liam but I need a car here right now. Call everyone you know in and have them setup vehicle check points on every street heading out of town.’ I didn’t bother waiting for a response; I just ended the call and walked back into the doctor’s offices.
The receptionist was crouched behind the front desk but she quickly jumped up when I slammed my fist on the counter top.
‘Who was that doctor in Dr. Keembry’s office?’ She trembled as she pulled up a roster
‘T-t-that was Dr. K-K-Keembry.’ She stuttered
‘Bullshit! That wasn’t him.’
‘He signed in this morning sir. He was in his office a little while ago.’ I looked over at the doctor’s office again and walked in there. She hurried after me in her teetery high heels and tried to stop me but I bared my teeth at her and she stopped pestering me but followed in silence instead.
His office was still empty and I looked on the floor in front of the bed. There lay a tray with various tubes and I realized this was what I heard fall earlier. I took a deep breath and sampled the air. Kelly, the so called doctor and…blood. I looked at the door to my right and stalked over to it.
‘You can’t go in there sir!’ The receptionist called but I ignored her. She knew better than to touch me. I froze at the sight in front of me. There in the small adjoining office was a small desk with cabinets and a chair holding a man. His head hung at an odd angle but he also had a knife in his back and I suspected that this was Dr. Keembry.
A dead Dr. Keembry.
