***Dweight's POV***
The way Hillary looked at me and then at Kelly had me realize that I was falling into the hole I didn't even want to approach in the first place.
The second I saw her I knew. This was going to be trouble. I was so distracted with her near me that I didn't even hear that bastard approach until he was right through my fucking bedroom door.
If I couldn't even protect one lone woman, how was I to protect a whole Pack? I steeled myself and took a step back.
'I'll be running patrol tonight. I'll call in Calan and Rory to watch her tonight but as for the rest of the day, you can watch her.' I had to refrain from running out of the door like a scolded child but I couldn't stop myself from slamming the door feeling all of the anger I felt for myself seeping into the action.
This can't happen and that's final!
'Calan!' I barked through the Pack link
'Alpha, what's wrong?' I ignored his question and walked toward the clearing to the West of the village
'You and Rory are on babysitting duty tonight.' I could practically feel the dissatisfaction in Rory's thoughts and grinned but the smile wiped off of my face when Calan shouted 'Woohoo! We're watching the hot girl.' I growled out loud skidding to a halt before I had to breathe and concentrate not to let my agitation creep into my thoughts.
'Get your ass to the border and do patrols. I'm going to do a wide sweep of sector C and I don't want anyone disturbing me.' I closed the link to avoid hearing anymore comments from Calan and nearly fell over my own feet when Liam stepped out from behind a tree.
'Jesus Liam, don't do that!' I shouted feeling my heart race as the adrenaline spiked through my system.
'I take it she is doing well then.' He grinned
'Who?' I pretended not to know what he was talking about
'The blonde bombshell in your bed.' He said with a leer and it had me baring my teeth at him.
He was my Beta, my best friend since we were just pups and right now he was pissing me off.
'You care for her.' He folded his arms with a satisfied smirk on his face
'I do not. She is taking refuge until she is healed and then she's gone.' He laughed out loud at that and wiped at the non existant tears.
'Say it louder, I don't think you believed yourself.'
'What the hell do you want Liam?' I wasn't in the mood for his usual bitchy sense of humour.
'I just wanted to tell you that you're lucky.' I looked at him sharply but he didn't meet my gaze. He was staring at the trees to his left.
'It's not everyday that we meet our mates.' He turned and walked off into the woods from wence he came leaving me gaping after him.

Growling I kicked dead leaves out of my way and ran my hand through my hair feeling a little better and a little worse. I didn't want anyone to know what she was to me. It killed my father to lose my mother and I promised myself that I wouldn't ever be that vulnerable but in the same breath I can say that I feel relieved that Liam was pro-mate. It still didn't change the fact that I couldn't take care of her. She distracted me and the only thing I learnt in the 10 years that I've been Alpha of this pack is that a distracted wolf is a dead wolf.
I grimaced and took off into the woods to change for my run.
