***Kelly's POV***
I shook all over as the last minute replayed in my head. I was peacefully asleep when Dweight bolted out of the bed and started taking his clothes off. It looked like he was possessed and by the look of hell burning in his eyes I’d say it wasn’t far off.
‘Dweight, are you ok?’
‘Kelly, stay here.’ His wolf practically growled at me and he instantly turned into his wolf and sprinted out of the house. I was left shaking and afraid but I knew I had to help.
What was going on?
As I jumped out of bed, pulled my jeans on over my shorts and pulled a jacket over my head Hillary came running into the room.
She doubled over; placing her hands on her knees and panted like she had just run a marathon.
‘Hillary what’s going on? Is everyone ok?’ She raised a hand, still keeping her head down as she gulped and tried to calm her breathing. After what felt like ages she finally stood upright and I saw her eyes shine like she was suppressing tears.
‘Hillary?’ She immediately walked up to me and hugged me.
‘Oh my dear they took one of our younger girls this morning. Bonny…she…’ Her voice was fragile and I pulled away from her.
‘What do you mean they took her? Who-’ My voice cut off like a switch and my hand involuntarily moved to my mouth to stifle the scream that wanted out.
‘Oh my God…Oh God no…’ My eyes welled up and I had to blink away the tears.
‘They beat her mother and took her. There were about 8 wolves and she… they didn’t stand a chance.’
‘Why didn’t they call Dweight?’ I choked out. Surely they could have contacted their Alpha for help.
‘Donna was knocked unconscious and I don’t know what happened to Bonny.’ She choked back a sob.
‘This is my fault.’
‘Nonsense! This isn’t your fault at all.’ She snapped at me
‘I came here and Daniel followed. Your Pack is getting hurt because of me and now the ultimatum…Daniel said he’ll kill one of you for every day I am not returned to him and it’s started.’ I growled feeling my wolf in my limbs knowing my eyes have probably changed colour.
‘That bastard won’t stop until he gets what he wants.’ I snarled bristling and pacing feeling like I’ve been here before; caged with no options. Where could I possibly go where Daniel wouldn’t look?
No! My wolf howled. That one word spoke volumes as I felt my heart shatter.
I didn’t want to leave Dweight but I didn’t have a choice. She snarled at me and I almost flinched.
I’m only causing them pain! I growled back at my wolf and she backed down unable to argue that point.
I started crying and sat down on Dweight’s couch. Hillary soon joined me and wrapped her arm around me.
‘Now you listen to me. This is not your fault. Dweight will find her, do you hear me?’
I couldn’t speak so I just nodded.
It took me a few minutes to calm down enough to find my voice but I cleared my throat and looked down at my clothes; all rumpled and pulled on in a hasty fashion. My PJ shorts were sticking out of my jeans and I almost felt the light bulb go on above my head.
‘Hillary, I’m so sorry I just realized I haven’t even showered yet.’ I feigned the best apologetic look and crossed my arms over my chest.
‘Oh…Well why don’t you go hop in and we can talk when you come back out.’ I hesitated and then nodded, got my things together and disappeared into the bathroom, locking the door behind me.
I looked around and for the first time, realized there was a large frosted window above the bath covered with charcoal coloured wooden shutters. That was it. My way out…
I reached into the shower and switched the water on to continue with the cover story and then I stood in the bath looking at the latch on the shutters. It only took me a second to figure out how to unclip the entire wooden frame and I gently placed it on the carpet in front of the bath.
There was a gentle rap on the door and Hillary’s voice floated through the wood.
‘Kelly, I’m just going to get you some breakfast and I’ll be back in two minutes.’ It almost sounded like a warning but I nodded to myself -that was more than enough time-.
‘Okay!’ I called back and unlatched the window, climbed through and stood there for a few seconds. I actually heard Hillary’s footsteps as she jogged away from the house and into the kitchen.
I didn’t know what I was doing but I had to do something to make this stop and if Daniel wanted me then he could have me.
My thundering heart was breaking at the thought but I quickly shoved the feeling away thinking of that poor girl and her mother being attacked because Daniel couldn’t have me.
I took a deep breath and ran for it.
Ready or not, here I come.
