Chapter 9

Ok! Little extra information for this chapter that I kind of forgot/hadn't thought of until just now. So in this AU Lila is better at lying than the show. Don't get me wrong the stuff she tells her classmates could be disproven with a Google search, but for the teachers and school records, she's a little more advanced. She has forged doctors' notes for most of her 'ailments' so as far as the school (and Bruce) are concerned she really does have everything she claims to.

Marinette became something of a cryptid over the course of the next month. Whenever anyone in the house saw her she was furiously designing in one of her notebooks, and talking was impossible. If it wasn't for her brothers making sure she ate and slept (much like they had to for Tim when he was in the middle of a case) she probably would have collapsed two weeks into her inspiration. However, much to their dismay, whenever the bats would return from a patrol she would be sitting somewhere in the cave comparing fabrics or finishing a line of stitching on her dress as the month went on.

Then as soon as she noticed they had returned, she would get up and leave. Marinette never mentioned it the following morning.

It was very disturbing for some reason.

Marinette herself was completely oblivious to the chaos she was causing amongst the Waynes. All she was concerned with was the chaos she would be causing at the gala. Dick, while cautious, hadn't seen the reason for keeping the guest list from her, and so passed her a copy. He immediately regretted this decision when Marinette started cackling. Full-on supervillain cackling. Dick was even more concerned when she abruptly stopped and thanked him with a megawatt smile.

It would have been pleasant if her eyes hadn't been screaming revenge. Dick had nightmares about that smile for the rest of the week.

Meanwhile, while Marinette was unintentionally causing discord amongst the family, Selina and Talia had taken to hounding Bruce for his treatment of Marinette.

He held out for a total of three days before they cracked him. 

Bruce told the women about the things he had learned from her former classmates, how she went from a seemingly sweet girl to the worst bully of a new transfer student, who is terribly afflicted.

Selina and Talia have actually spoken with Marinette, however, and promptly call him out on his bullcrap.

"Now you listen here Brucie." Selina started with a glare, "I don't care if she's been accused of murder. Marinette is your daughter, and you need to start acting like it, or she will become everything you're afraid she already is."

Then Talia joined in, "I'd be more than happy to take her. She has much raw potential. It would be such a shame to see it go to waste."

That seemed to shock something out of Bruce because for the rest of the month he could be found trying to connect with his youngest child.

Damien was the one to call his mother out, "Marinette has a tendency to trip of thin air, what raw potential are you talking about?"

Talia merely smirked, "There is much about your younger sister that none of you know."

Marinette was finishing the last details on her dress in her room surrounded by the kwami. Nooroo was flitting nervously across the fabric as she stitched.

"Are you sure this is a good idea Guardian?"

"You can call me Marinette Nooroo, and I won't make you do anything you are uncomfortable with. If you don't want to do this, I won't force you to."

Duusuu, on the other hand, couldn't have been happier about the idea, "I love this plan! It's so sneaky and subtle! He won't realize what's going on until it is far too late!"

Marinette smiled at the surrounding kwami as they began to voice their thoughts on her idea as well. With a gentle smile, she told Nooroo, "The party isn't for another week. If you change your mind you know where to find me."

The butterfly kwami gave her a nod and a nervous smile before flying off.

Within two hours, Marinette had finished the final details.
