"Sophie?" I heard a voice call softly? Of course, it had to be the one person I was trying to avoid. I quickly wiped the tears streaming down my face before responding.
"What do you want now?" I asked, my voice hardened. He seemed to buy my anger, until he noticed a rebel tear escape from my eye. He noticably cringed at how much he hurt me. Maybe that meant he still cared-
I stopped myself from continuing that train of thought. Why did I even care?
Because deep down, you know you aren't mad at him. You just wish he felt the same as you do.
Nobody asked you, me. Or is it nobody asked me, you? Augh - back on topic! Keefe seemed to be mid-ramble when I decided to tune back in.
"...So I'm really, really, sorry, I didn't mean it, I hope you can forgive me, and..I guess what I'm asking is...can we start over?"
The intensity in his eyes made my breath catch. It was a really cute look on him to be all sophisticated.
"Focus, Sophie!" I scolded myself. His frown deeped and his face fell every second I didn't respond.
"It's okay, I get it. You can't forgive me.." he said sadly. I slapped a hand over his mouth impulsively.
"Don't even finish that sentence! Of course I forgive you!" I interrupted emotionally. I felt him smile against my hand. It took me a few moments to realize my hand was still on his face.
"Oh, oh, sorry!" I said, sure my cheeks were a neon red, considering how they felt like they were on fire.
"No, it's fine," he said with a smile, "So does that mean we can start over?"
His smile got even wider when I held out my hand and said, "Hi, I'm Sophie. And you are?"
"Keefe. Would you like to hangout sometime? Like, tomorrow at 3, maybe?"
I was pretty sure my heart was about to flutter out of my chest, and was about scream yes - maybe a few thousand times - when he added, "Just as friends, of course."
"Oh, yeah," I said, trying my best not to sound disappointed, "Of course."
"Welp, I gotta go - later, Foster," he said cheerfully, then walked away.
I sighed. Of course as friends. He made that clear.
All of a sudden, he turned on his heel and headed towards me.
"Keefe, what are you doing?" He leaned in towards me and gave me a quick peck on the cheek. I felt my cheeks redden in a completely different way than before.
"What was that for?" I whispered, in shock, but not hating what happened.
He simply gave me a sweet smile in response, and said "Looking forward to tomorrow, Sophie."
It took me a second to process that he'd called me Sophie.
So..that just happened. Right after he pretty much declared us as 'just friends' he kissed me, and called me my real name, for once.
I was so confused..
But so, so happy.
