Your eyes snapped open suddenly, staring up at the ceiling of your tent. Slowly sitting up, you looked around. Since you were sharing your tent with Naruto, you expected to see him there. Glancing over at his bed on the other side of the tent, you were surprised to see it empty. It was quite late at night and even though the blonde did stay out late to train, he was usually back by this time. But since he wasn't there, you assumed he was still training with Killer Bee.
Laying back down, you stretched your tired body out and thought over everything that had happened while you were on the turtle island. The main incident was the appearance of Kisame. You'd been informed that he had died during a fight with Killer Bee, but it was only now that you realised that he wasn't dead. Instead, he had hidden within his sword Samehada.
Unfortunately, before he could be caught he committed suicide, preventing anyone from trying t get information out of him about the plans of the remains of the Akatsuki. You really wished he wouldn't give his life up for the Akatsuki and what it had become, no longer being a cause you saw worth any sacrifice.
Heaving a loud sigh, you rolled over onto your side and tried to get back to sleep. Closing your eyes, you breathed steadily in hopes of falling asleep so you could wake up the next morning well-rested.
But for some reason, that wasn't happening. At this point, you were just laying there with your eyes closed, your brain active and unable to rest. You were quick to get bored of this, sitting up once again but getting out of bed this time. Quickly changing into warmer clothes, you decided that you would look for Naruto. You weren't sure if it would help, but maybe if you knew he was safe you would be able to rest easy.
You started with the main places you thought he would be, starting with the waterfall he usually trained by. Arriving there, you didn't see any sign of the blonde boy or Killer Bee. This confused you since you were very sure that they would be here, guessing you'd just missed them at the campsite. Walking back, you headed straight to Killer Bee's tent.
"Bee, are you in there?" you called, hoping the eight-tails jinchuriki would come out. But after receiving an answer, you were once again confused. Deciding to have a look for yourself, you unzipped the tent and peeked inside. Once again, it was empty and there was no sign of them. Zipping the tent back up, you looked around the campsite. It was then that Iruka returned from the river with a bucket of water, placing it next to his tent
"Iruka, do you know where Naruto and Killer Bee are?" you asked, approaching the scarred male. He lifted his head to look up at you, shaking his head with a closed-eyed smile.
"No, have you checked the tents?" he asked. You nodded, folding your arms across your chest as you watched him. He looked nervous, making it obvious that he was hiding something from you.
"Are you sure you don't know where they are?" you pressed, taking a few steps closer to him. Seeing you growing nearer, he took a step back and quickly shook his head, looking very panicked.
"Y-yeah, I haven't seen them," he forced out, averting his gaze. Taking one final step closer, you were face to face with him.
"Are you really sure?" The pressure quickly broke him, taking one more step back before resting his hand on his quickly beating heart.
"Fine, you got me. I let them go, they're heading to the battlefield," he told you, looking guilty. Hearing that they were heading there made you feel conflicted. On one hand, the pair would be very useful on the battlefield but it was also very dangerous for them. They were the targets of all of this and if the enemy got their hands on them it could be really bad for everyone.
"Hey, I know that you're going to want to go after them and fight alongside the others. So just go, they'll need you there," he encouraged. You nodded, petting the scarred male on the shoulder before turning around to leave. But before you could take a step away from him, Iruka stopped you.
"(Y/n), wait!" he called out. Wanting to know what was so important, you looked back over your shoulder at him. It was obvious how stressed he was about whatever was on his mind by the way he tightly clenched his hands into fists.
"We got some intel yesterday," he started, pausing to avoid saying it. But it was too late now, you wanted to hear it. Staring at him intensely, he knew that he would need to say it now. Taking a deep breath, he spoke.
"Konan's dead," he said, refusing to look up at you. Hearing that shocked you, your body freezing for a moment. Not wanting to deal with it now, you turned back gained and sighed.
"Thanks for telling me." And without looking back, you rushed into the forest. You hurried along the surface of the turtle island before reaching the edge, leaping off and landing on the surface of the water. From there you ran as fast as you could, hoping there was a possibility that you would run into the two jinchuriki.
But as you ran, you couldn't stop yourself from thinking about Konan. She's said that she had something to take care of when you last saw her, hoping that she got to complete it before she died.
It was painful to know that Konan, someone you thought of like a little sister, was now dead. The only thing you could tell yourself to soothe your mind was that she'd be happy now. Once again she'd get to be with Yahiko and Nagato again, no longer having to worry about what was going on here. You hated that they were away from you now, but felt better knowing that they were all finally at peace.
With each new chapter, we grow closer to the end of the story. It usually makes me sad because once it's over I won't be able to write this one any more. But I'm also excited cause I wanna share all the ideas I have for this story with everyone who reads it. Sorry for the long wait and thank you for reading :)
