Ten years ago
You jumped backwards as an enemy lunged at you. Yahiko, being close by, attacked them from behind, knocking them to the ground. A battle had broken out between an unknown group of shinobi and the Akatsuki during one of your missions. Your objective was to aid a small town after they had been nearly wiped off the map by the group which now fought against you.
As you fought, you could see your comrades around you doing the same. This gave you the determination to win every single battle you took part in, getting rid of anyone who stood in your way. It was unfortunate that they had to die, but that was just the way it was.
All you wanted right now was to win this battle and return to the base where you would get to spend some more time with Nagato. You were glad that he was here fighting with you, but it was time spent alone together that meant the most to you.
You let your eyes drift to the red-haired man as you kicked your opponent back, sending them flying into the trunk of a nearby tree. It was hard not to watch as he fought against his own enemy, using the techniques he had perfected after training under Jiraiya. As you took your eyes off of Nagato, another enemy ran to attack you, the blood dripping from their blade indicating that someone on your side had already lost.
He smirked up at you before leaping forward, swinging his kunai in an attempt to cut you. Using your own blade, you knocked his back, managing to hit it out of his grasp. Using the opportunity you had made for yourself, you ended him quickly, his blood falling to the ground along with his body.
Taking the chance to look around, you realized that the battle had shifted from one side of the forest to another. Now you didn't recognize any of your surrounding, having never been there before. Ducking behind a tree, you made you way around the forest in search of another enemy. Up ahead you had noticed that it was a lot brighter than where you currently were, crouching in the shade of the trees.
Walking out into the open, you let your eyes scan the battle field. It looked like a majority of the fighting had moved out here where there was a lot more space. It was a large barren area, the ground made from hard stone, there being no soil to to provide a foundation for any kind of life. Dust was lifted into the air as feet shifted across the dry, lifeless land, being blown away by a gentle breeze.
Letting your eyes scan the ongoing battles, you found Nagato, Konan and Yahiko again, feeling thankful that they were all okay. As soon as you came across an enemy, you were quick to fight back, wanting to help out as best as you could. But you became annoyed as the shinobi began running, leading you closer to the edge of a nearby chasm.
It looked as if the ground had cracked open, leaving a large pit of nothingness behind. Whilst fighting closer to the edge, you took a moment to look down into the abyss below. There was nothing that could be seen, only the color black and the overwhelming fear of what such a dark place could hold. But even so, you continued to fight, managing to take them out despite how fast they were.
The sound of a loud scream caught the attention of everyone on the battlefield, fights continuing yet the source of the sound being kept in everyone's peripherals. One of the shinobi on the opposing side stood in the center of the battle field, doing a series of hand signs. Yahiko ran to try and stop him, but it was too late. They completed the necessary hand signs and placed their palm to the ground, the earth beneath everyone's feet beginning to shake.
It was only then that you noticed how close to the edge of the cliff you were. You were finding difficulty in balancing as the ground below your feet shifted. The shinobi who had just used the earth jutsu noticed you, their eyebrows furrowed as they ran towards you.
Not paying attention to your surroundings and only to yourself, you hadn't noticed them approaching you until they were right upon you. With a strong kick to the stomach, you were sent flying back.
Expecting to hit the ground harshly, you didn't. Instead, you continued to fall. It was then that you realized that you had been kicked over the side of the cliff and were now falling into the dark chasm you feared. Looking up at the sky above, you were sure you could hear people shouting your name but were unsure.
As you plummeted deeper into the never-ending pit, you closed your eyes and waited for impact. You knew that despite the darkness, there would have to be an end somewhere. It was then that you realized that the way you would die was being swallowed by darkness and you were content with that.
But as you continued falling, you felt an overwhelming sadness. Being reminded of the future you had planned with Nagato brought tears to your eyes. And as you fell, you started to cry, wishing that you had more time to spend with him. You were only young, there was so much time where you could've been with the one you loved. But this was fate, it was your destiny to die here on this day, being swallowed by darkness.
Sniffling quietly, you tucked yourself up into your Akatsuki cloak and continued to await your demise.
Your life was about to end and you knew that where ever you ended up next would be no paradise.
I'm sad just over the fact that she never got to say goodbye to any of them. Sure, she got to see Konan and Pein (Not the real Nagato yet) but she never got to say goodbye to Yahiko. She was like an older sister to Yahiko and I can only imagine the pain of that happening.
Anyway, on a lighter note, thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed the chapter :)
