You ran through the night, heading towards the battlefield since you knew that was where Killer B and Naruto were heading. As you ran, you doubted that you would reach them before they got there unless they were to run into some obstacles. Maybe there were already some enemy shinobi waiting for them, but you weren't too sure if the enemy would risk that. They'd need to find someone strong enough to face the two Jinchuriki and you weren't sure if they had anyone like that besides the leaders of the other side. But you knew they probably wouldn't be here, most likely being on the actual battlefield right now.
You felt like you had been running for hours, not knowing if you'd even reach them. But after a while, you watched a large explosion in the distance. Knowing that it was probably Killer B and Naruto, you sped up as much as you could to reach them. But as you ran, the earth beneath your feet started to shake. Focusing chakra to your feet, you continued to run and didn't let the tremors slow you down.
Getting closer, you could see the full extent of the damage. Trees were ripped from the ground and the earth was cratered and loose from being pummelled. Seeing all of this made you worry, hoping the young Jinchuriki was alright. You just hoped that Killer B had had his back and that they were able to take care of their opponents. But as you drew nearer, you suddenly stopped at the sight of something you had never expected to see.
You slowed down and completely stopped when you spotted a flaming red Susanoo in the distance. Your eyes widened in fear for Naruto, not knowing if he'd be able to take on something as powerful as that. But another question came to mind, you wanted to know who's Susanoo it was. All of the Uchiha clan, with the exception of Itachi's brother, were gone now so you wanted to know who it belonged to. Not waiting another second, you broke into a sprint towards the Susanoo. You didn't care if facing this would be your time to die, all you wanted was to make sure Naruto was okay.
---------------------------
You continued to run but started to slow down as an unexpected scene showed itself in front of you. Initially, you had expected Naruto and Killer B to be facing the Susanoo user but that wasn't the case. Itachi Uchiha, someone you thought was dead, stood with the two Jinchuriki. You then let your gaze move to the sword that the Susanoo held, finally taking in the sight of the person impaled on it.
Your body froze as his familiar purple-ringed eyes met your own (e/c) ones. You then watched him quickly turn his face away, reminding you of his habit. You remembered how he would watch you silently, quickly looking away when he was caught. Hiding his flustered face behind his red hair. But this time, he didn't look like that at all. Instead, he looked regretful.
"Nagato," you whispered, letting his name slip out of your mouth. You thought he might look at you again but he didn't, keeping his gaze averted.
"I don't want our last moments to be like this," he said, all attention moving between yourself and Nagato. Killer B, Naruto and the reanimated Itachi watched in silence, knowing that this would be the last time you would see each other before he was sealed.
"Then what did you want our last moments to be? Me feeling confused and abandoned after seeing that you had left without saying anything? Or the pain I felt when I found your dead body in the Leaf village?" you accused, not being able to hold back your feelings now that he was right in front of you.
"I had the intention of returning to you," he excused, still refusing to look at you. You felt furious, hating the way things had ended. Taking a step forward, you froze when he quickly turned to face you again, looking serious.
"Stop, don't come any closer!" he yelled. You watched as he looked at you will panicked eyes, not yet understanding his urgency.
"You need to stay back, I don't have control of my body and I don't want to hurt you," he begged, sounding desperate. But you weren't having it, this was probably the last time you were ever going to see him and you weren't going to waste it. Ignoring his words, you took another step forward only to feel someone's hand on your shoulder. Turning your head, you saw Naruto beside you a concerned yet serious look on his face.
"You know that you shouldn't," he said firmly, giving your shoulder a reassuring squeeze. In the back of your mind, you knew that he was right, heaving a quiet sigh your returned your gaze to Nagato. Meeting his gaze, this time he offered you a sad smile.
"I'm sorry that I wasn't able to offer you the paradise I promised," he said, his voice full of sincerity. He still looked regretful, his eyes moving down to the large sword which pierced him. You watched as it was slowly pulled out, already beginning to seal him. You watched as his body slowly began to deteriorate, small pieces beginning to fly away in the gentle breeze. Seeing him disappear before your eyes, you clenched your fists tightly to hold back your emotions. But it didn't work, your eyes beginning to water. You opened your mouth to say something but couldn't get any words out, your bottom lip quivering as you were overcome by your emotions.
You turned your face away so you didn't have to watch, not wanting to show anyone how much this was affecting you. But were surprised when you felt arms wrap around you, Naruto giving you a hug after noticing how upset you were.
"It's going to be okay," he whispered. You didn't hesitate to return the hug, wanting someone to console you in a moment when you felt so low. There you didn't care about letting your tears out anymore, letting them run down your face as Nagato was completely sealed and disappeared from sight.
Giving it a few moments, you eventually pulled away from the blonde teen and wiped your eyes. Offering him a small smile, he returned it and allowed you a moment to compose yourself.
Turning back to face the place where Nagato once stood, you heaved a quiet sigh. Naruto left your side to approach Killer B, Itachi taking the now empty spot beside you.
"You'll see him sooner than you think," he said quietly before heading over to the others. You watched him walk away, following him to join the others.
"I know."
I had completely forgotten about Nagato being reanimated since it's only a small part of the show. But I'm glad that I could fit it in and give him a little more time before the end of the story. I feel like it gave closure for (Y/n) since she never got to say goodbye to him. She doesn't really get to say goodbye here but I feel like she needed to see him one last time and to hear the apology. He wanted so much for the two of them and their future together but yeah... Not always a happy ending aye. Anyway, the story continues, you'll see what happens next ;)
