The news shocked you. Both Sasori and Deidara had been killed whilst fighting in an attempt to capture a tailed beast. They had been successful in kidnapping the jinchuriki of the one-tailed beast, Gaara of the sand, but didn't make it back. Luckily enough, the Akatsuki had managed to get away with extracting the beast, the two S-rank ninja dying in an attempt to return to the base after being attacked by both Konoha and Suna shinobi.
Since you had only spent a short amount of time with the two, you hadn't had the chance to form any kind of friendship so you weren't too down about the whole situation. But you did feel a little sad to see two of them gone, feeling like their personalities fit well in the Akatsuki. Not letting you dwell too much on the thought of their deaths, you distracted yourself with other things.
Sitting in the living room, you silently read a book with Itachi accompanying you. He did the same, flipping through the pages of his own book, the pair of you not speaking a word. The atmosphere was quiet but you found it relaxing, not finding any awkwardness in the silence of the Uchiha's company. Finishing the chapter you were currently reading, you started the beginning of the next, pausing at the sound of footsteps. Hidan walked into the living room with a skip in his step, looking as if he had something to show off. He smiled widely with his nose raised, his arms crossed in front of his bare chest.
"Guess where I'm going," he said, his eyes closed as he stood before you, radiating confidence. His words were directed at you and you knew it, Itachi keeping to himself yet listening in.
"Where?" you asked, not having a clue what could get Hidan so hyped up. He slightly opened one of his eyes, peeking out to see the expression on your face. You looked genuinely curious, having no clue what he was hinting at.
"I'm going on a mission," he announced as if it were something to be jealous about. In response, you sent him a kind, closed-eyed smile.
"Be safe." Hidan was shocked by your words, his eyebrows furrowing to show his frustration and confusion regarding your words.
"Is something wrong?" you followed up, head tilting to the side in curiosity.
"Yeah, why're you acting like that?" he accused, although you didn't know what he was referring to.
"Like what?" The young male's cheeks tinted a light pink as he averted his gaze.
"You know, like all nice and stuff," he grumbled. His words were quiet and kind of slurred together but you understood what he was saying.
"Oh, sorry. How did you want me to react?" you asked, wanting to know what he expected out of telling you about his mission. He gave it a moment of thought before blurting out what was on his mind.
"I dunno, jealousy or something. You never go out on missions, you just stay here and take care of everything like you're everyone's mom." You were surprised by his outburst but responded to it the same way you had to his announcement earlier. Your own face grew a little red at the thought, you weren't really aware of how you were acting but now that you thought over it, you could see how motherly you were acting.
"I guess I've been doing it unconsciously, does it make you uncomfortable?" you asked, hoping that wasn't the case. Hidan shook his head, his pendant moving with the movements of his head and neck.
"It doesn't bother me, I just wanna know why. You don't have any kids, right?" You nodded in response to his question.
"No, I don't have any children, Hidan." The silver-haired man opened his mouth to speak again, only to be interrupted by his partner. Kakuzu walked through the door which connected the hallway to the living room, his expression hidden behind the mask he removed only during meals.
"Hurry along, Hidan. We're leaving now," he grunted, meeting your gaze briefly before turning around fully and walking out of the room. Hidan watched the older male walk a small distance down the hall before turning his attention back to you.
"I'll talk to you when I get back," he said, a very confident smile occupying his features. It was actually strange how happy he looked talking about it. In response, you smiled back, clutching your bracelet tightly with one hand. There you regretfully prayed for the young man's safety.
"Make sure to come back in one piece," you called out to him as he entered the hallway. With a playful smirk, he flipped you the bird before leaving the hideout completely with Kakuzu. From there you stayed silent, looking up only when you felt eyes boring into the side of your head.
"Is there something you need, Itachi?" you asked, hoping the raven-haired man would return his gaze to his book. He hummed quietly before saying anything.
"I was wondering why you were so kind to someone as vulgar and disrespectful as Hidan," he said, his face giving no hint as to how he felt about the matter. You shrugged your shoulders as you stood from your seat, tucking your book under your arm.
"He's got a good side, I've seen it. He's just misguided," you said before beginning to walk towards the room's exit. Itachi said nothing after that, his gaze returning to the pages of his book. But you were already gone by the time this happened, making your way towards the office of someone who you badly wanted to see. You had been in the Akatsuki for a while now and hadn't seen Nagato at all.
Today you were going to fix that.
I think without having found Jashinism Hidan wouldn't be the psycho we all know and love. I also like seeing him be fond of someone else in a way that isn't romantic. I see it that Hidan, despite his attempt to woo her earlier, sees (Y/n) as more of an older sister figure now due to her trying to take care of everyone. And RIP Sasori and Deidara <3
