Finishing cooking, you began laying it all out on the table. Overlooking everything you had made, you felt proud. You were still able to cook, even after all of this time and it made you very confident in your skills.
Yahiko's mother had taught you, knowing full well that in the future you would have mouths of your own to feed. Not that you saw the Akatsuki as family, but that you were now taking care of people once again. It reminded you of looking after those three orphans when they were only children. Because while watching over Konan and Yahiko when the war started, his mother never returned. Your face fell at the memory, eyes lighting up once you had finished with everything, trying to distract yourself from depressing memories.
The table was covered in many different dishes which sat in its center, empty plates waiting to be filled sitting before the chairs which the members would soon sit on. Noticing a small bell, you guessed that this was how the members were called to eat. So, picking up the bell, you rang it.
Barely five seconds passed before they all started arriving, taking their seats and beginning to eat without consultation from anyone. It reminded you of the children, they did the same, except for Nagato, who was patient and waited until you had started before he would eat.
Joining the others, you sat down in your chair beside Tobi, Konan's chair empty still. As the Akatsuki began eating, they noticed the difference in the cooking, it was a lot better than what Konan had been serving them all this time. As if on cue, Konan entered the dinning room, yawning and rubbing her eyes.
"It's a lot better than usual," Kisame pointed out, directing his attention to Konan. Finally waking up fully, her eyes widened at the meal on the table.
"Huh? I didn't cook, I just woke up..." she trailed off, eyes drifting towards me. I smiled lightly at her, petting the empty chair beside me.
"I didn't want to wake you so I cooked it myself," I told her, the others hearing and feeling surprised in your ability to cook something this good.
"What the fuck? The bitch did it?!" he asked in both a loud and rude manner, his mouth filled with already chewed food. Konan glared at him, filling her own plate.
"Don't speak about her like that," she scolded, glaring angrily at the silver-haired male. He just clicked his tongue and turned his face away like a misbehaving child would.
Dinner was finished quickly, everyone pleased with the food and the amount that they had eaten. It also seemed to make the other members see you in a better light, some of the more vocal ones sharing their gratitude before leaving the dinning room to return to their rooms.
You were also very pleased with the way everything had turned out with the cooking. Everyone was happy and that was what you intended to happen with your cooking. Konan was the last to leave besides yourself, helping you clear the table and take all of the dishes back to the kitchen. She started cleaning them, stopping you when you tried to give assistance.
"There's no need, Pein told me that he wants to see you in his office after dinner. Go and see him now before he gets angry," she said. You nodded and did as she had told you to, leaving the kitchen and heading towards Pein's office.
-------------------------
Knocking on the large door, you were greeted by his deep voice calling from the other side. Taking this as permission to enter, you did so. The office looked the same as it had the last time you had been there, but this time Pein was sitting at his desk. When he noticed that it was you, he gestured you forward with his hand. Complying, you walked further into the room, closing the door before you did.
"Thank you for joining me," his deep voice called, ringed eyes watching your every move. Not knowing what to say in response, you bowed your head to show respect. It had only become known to you recently but Pein now referred to himself as a god. This was definitely possible with the amount of power he had, you hadn't seen it in action in a while but those Rinnegan eyes were otherworldly in power.
"Anyway, I wanted to ask you something," he continued, getting up out of his seat. He walked towards you with eyes fixed on your still figure, noticing how you refused to meet his gaze.
"Do you fear me?" he asked, stopping in front of you. His hand gently grabbed your chin, forcing you to look up and meet his hypnotic purple eyes. You thought for a second about what he had asked, not feeling intimidated or frightened whatsoever.
"No, I don't," you told him, standing your ground. His face remained in its neutral resting expression but you could tell that he was pleased with your answer.
"Does that mean that you're still mine after all this time?" he questioned, seeming desperate for an answer.
You held his gaze, trying to read the emotions behind his words. You had never feared Nagato because you knew for a fact that he would never hurt you, he was gentle and caring. And even though this wasn't your ideal Nagato, you trusted that he wouldn't change enough to harm you in any shape or form. And so, Pein repeated himself, showing how truly desperate he was for your answer.
"Are you still mine?"
"Yes, I promise that my heart belongs to Nagato and Nagato alone," I admitted, watching as his face contorted slightly. It was the answer he was looking for, but at the same time, it wasn't.
"Mine?"
"Nagato's," you repeated, hoping that he would understand what you were trying to say. Panicking, Pein acted without thought. He pulled your face forward with the intention of kissing you. Oh how the thought of kissing your love once again made your heart flutter, but this wasn't him. This was Pein, this was not your Nagato. Before he could make contact with your lips, you turned your face away, his lips making contact with your cheek instead.
This angered him, so much so that his eyebrows furrowed and his eyes widened ready to cause some severe damage. But something stopped him, holding him back. Taking hold of his hands, you looked at him and sent a smile. A genuine one which was meant to shine right past Pein and be seen only by Nagato, where ever it is that he was.
"I do love you Pein, if you are apart of Nagato. But you're also apart of my little brother and for that, I can not kiss you," you told him, hoping that he would understand. He backed down after that, his face lowered towards the ground. You could only imagine just how upsetting this would be for him, his lover not wanting to kiss him.
Reaching upward, you cupped his cheeks and smiled softly up at him. Heat dusted your cheeks at the thought of what you were going to say to him, a a lump forming in your throat.
"When you come back to me as Nagato, then I will accept your kiss." Leaning forward, you pressed a gently kiss to his cheek before turning and leaving the room. It was a terrifying thing to do, especially to Pein who was such a menacing guy but you held no fear nor regret in your words and actions. You knew that it was the right thing to do.
Nagato promised you that in the future, when there is no war and you live in paradise, that the two of you can happily be together. But until then, you'd have to do your best to help the Akatsuki mold the future Nagato had promised you.
Hope that was a good chapter. I'm really enjoying writing this story so I hope you're enjoying reading it. Thank you!
