Emily: "And the what ifs are the worse." Susane Colasanti.
Everyone was adjusting to having Emily back. It was perfectly understandable. But this, this was getting a little too much. Emily felt as though people were looking through her. She was often left out of the conversation, not purposefully. She knows that. But just accidental since nobody wanted to talk to a hallucination. Except that Emily was here now.
She counted about five times where each of her team members would accidentally exclude her from the conversation. There had to be a bright side to this.
Just as Emily thought life didn't get any more full of tension, she walked into the bullpen. A woman was seen in Hotch's office, laughing and smiling as she sat at the edge of the man's desk. From what Emily could tell, she was pretty, brunette, and obviously had a love for Aaron by the way she wanted to be so close to him. The raven-haired woman sighed as she looked out at them.
Just forget it. It's probably nothing.
Emily set down her things and was sitting at her desk when the door opened. Hotch's eyes widened as the woman walked down the stairs. Emily glanced up to see the woman walking right towards her.
"Oh, you must be Emily!" she said and stuck out her hands. Emily furrowed her eyebrows as she stood up and was embraced in a hug by the woman. Aaron just pursed his lips. "I'm sorry, I'm a hugger. But, I'm Beth. Aaron's wife. He told me so much about you that I just had to meet you myself."
Emily's jaw dropped.
Wife.
She looked over at Aaron, who had his eyes to the floor. He thought he could ease Emily into this conversation later down the line and not the second week she was back.
"It is lovely to meet you, Beth," Emily said and smiled, semi-forcefully, at the woman. Emily's mind couldn't shake that Beth looked so much like her. Aaron was essentially just replacing Emily with a more sporty, peppy version of her.
"Well, I'll let the two of you get back to it, saving lives and kicking criminal ass," Beth said and placed her hand on Emily's shoulder. Emily's eyebrows raised as she nodded her head. Beth turned towards Aaron and kissed him softly. Emily wished she was literally anywhere else in the world at the moment. "Bye, Emily."
"Bye," Emily said as Beth walked off. Aaron and Emily stood there in silence. Neither of them wanted to say anything. Truth be told, Aaron was avoiding Emily. After the whole slapping him to the floor thing, he didn't have much to say to the woman. The feeling was mutual with Emily. She didn't even want to look at Hotch for what he did to JJ. Especially after he promised to look after the team when she was in the hospital, Aaron threw that promise out the window.
Emily just grabbed her mug and walked off towards the coffee machine. Aaron didn't even know what to say and just opted to head back to his office. She must have really pissed off God today. It was barely seven-thirty, and she already felt sick to her stomach. He was already married. Honestly, Emily had no right to be upset that Aaron had moved on. It was what she wanted. Emily thought she let go of the man completely. But that changed. She didn't even recognize who he was anymore. Previously, he was a hardass and a bit too controlling at times, but this was the next level.
