Rossi: "Of all the ghosts, the ghosts of our old lovers are the worst." Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
"I love you," JJ said over her shoulder.
"I love you, Emily Elizabeth Prentiss," Aaron said and stood right in front of the woman.
"I love you," Andrew said and smiled at the woman in the kitchen.
Emily's eyes shot open as their voices just got louder and louder and louder. She sat up and held onto the sheet tightly. Andrew turned over and furrowed his eyebrows. Emily ran her hands through her hair as she tried to catch her breath.
"Good morning," Andrew said as Emily turned around and rested her head against the man's chest. Emily tried her hardest to relax into the man's touch. "You okay?"
"Yeah. Just a nightmare," Emily said and covered herself as best as she could with the sheet. It had been a week since JJ had confessed to her out on the balcony along with her kiss with Hotch. Needless to say, Emily was dealing with it the way any average person would: by projecting. And not the good kind. Emily felt like a light switch the way she could turn hot and cold towards a specific person. She just didn't know what to do anymore with herself.
Emily shut her eyes and just tried to savor the touch of Andrew. She could fall back asleep with the way he was smiling down at her and tried not to move a single muscle.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
Well, that moment of peace could have lasted a little longer for the both of them. Emily reached over and grabbed her phone when she realized it wasn't her phone that was vibrating.
Andrew sat up and grabbed the phone. "Hey, good morning. How are you?"
Emily just settled back into the man's side, listening to his morning voice as he talked on the phone. It was seven o'clock in Washington, meaning it was five o'clock in Denver.
Andrew's daughter, Keely, and Andrew's ex-wife, Aria, had moved to Denver six months ago. To say it was taking a toll on Andrew would be an understatement. He wanted desperately to be a part of Keely's life and see her as she went through her high school days, but he just got promoted in Washington.
Andrew looked down at Emily, who was almost peacefully gone back to sleep. He smiled down at her. "You know what, I think a trip over there is exactly what I need. I'll talk to Emily so the two of you can finally meet each other. Sound good?"
Emily's body stiffened as she heard the man's whispers loud and clear. In all honesty, she wasn't ready to meet his daughter. They were barely together for five-ish months. She wasn't ready.
Andrew continued his phone call with his daughter as Emily got up and started to get ready for today. The man just watched her, admiring Emily in her natural form until his phone call ended.
Andrew got up right when Emily was making her way to the kitchen. He wrapped his arms around the woman and kissed her head. "Hey, so, we have to talk."
"Talk?" Emily asked and looked up at him. Her heart was pounding out of her chest. Those four words can have anyone's heart thumping out of their chest. He spun her around and kept his hands on her hips. "What about?"
