"Wait, wait, wait," I said scratching my head in the group activity sessions two days after the whole maybe it won't be so bad situation in our cell, "I have to find out what date it is today."

"Why, blondie?" Ashton mumbled as he stuck more paper down on the card.

"It's July 16th, why?" Karina jumped in.

"Oh, I missed my birthday," Ashton pouted sadly.

"It's my birthday today," I looked at Ashton sadly, biting my lip to stop from crying.

"Oh god," Ashton looked at me with a look of pure concern, "baby, happy birthday..."

"Yeah, whatever," I mumbled, wanting nothing more than to be at home. My mum used to give me breakfast in bed on my birthday and then we'd open a few presents (usually guitar books or strings or plectrums) and then my dad would give me my cards and I'd ask who all these distant relatives were who'd given me cards and-

"Babe- Luke, don't cry," Ashton whispered, rubbing my back, "please don't cry, not here, stay strong for a couple more minutes." I hadn't even realised I'd been crying but I wiped my eyes and sat back in my seat.

"Hey, wait, how did you know what day it is?" I asked Karina and she looked up.

"Honey, I'm a journalist, I like to know what day it is," Karina smiled at me and I nodded. Karina, Ashton and I had become... well... not exactly close but we all tolerated each other more than anyone else in this hell hole.

"Why is the new kid crying?" someone laughed and Ashton balled his fists. There was a group of criminals who'd taken a liking to making fun of me cruelly but I always tried to rise above it like my mother once said.

"Does he miss his mommy?" another snickered and I looked down at my lap.

"Wait, you guys, I have to discuss something really important with you-" Karina started but gasped as Ashton stood up, hands fisted, looking as if he was going to punch someone. Karina ran over to him and grabbed Ashton arms, pulling him back, "you idiot! Don't you dare hit him, that'll just make your whole situation ten times worse!"

"No, let me hurt him," Ashton growled and I stood up, hurrying over to him.

"Ash, please don't hurt him, Ashton," I begged, grabbing his arm.

"Luke get off," Ashton gently pushed me away.

"Ashton please," I begged desperately, my voice laced with hurt, "it's gonna hurt me if you get punished for punching him." I said softly as Ashton relaxed.

"Hey, how'd you do that?" Karina chuckled to me, patting the Curley haired boy on the back and then walking back over to her card making.

"M' sorry," Ashton mumbled, letting me pull him back over to our seats. I ran my fingers through my hair and sighed at the attractive boy pouting at me.

"Maybe you can take your frustrations out on me later," I blurted in a whisper and Ashton's eyes went wide as he laughed.

"You're legal now, so-" Ashton started but the guard cut us off.

"Time's up, back to the cells," a guard shouted, chaining Ashton and I together again and leading us back to our cell.

"I want to go home," I whispered as the guard slid the metal door shut, "I miss my parents a-and my dog and my brothers.... I just- I'm such a child. I'm eighteen now, for god's sake, I'm supposed to be out drinking and doing things eighteen year olds do, I don't know."

"C'mere," Ashton mumbled, pulling me into his lap, "hey, sweetheart, don't cry."

"I'm sorry," I sobbed, "I shouldn't be here, I- I-"

"No, no no," Ashton mumbled, suddenly pushing me off of him and clutching his head, "no, no, no, no, please, no, no." he repeated over and over again.

"Ashton?" I said worriedly, wanting desperately to help him.

"Get away from me," Ashton shouted, "leave me alone." he screamed, his nails clawing at his head as he sobbed and writhed around on the floor. "please no, not Luke- no, no, I didn't mean to, please just- j-just- please, no." Ashton shouted, his voice going hoarse.

Then his body went limp.
