chapter twenty - i do believe in fairies, i do, i do
ophelia realised that she could not wing her way through navigating the dark jungle pretty quickly. she'd never passed orientation in her life and thus she could not read a map for the life of her. she also had a terrible sense of direction, so why the map was left in her hands was beyond her. she assumed it was just a massive oversight and was too scared to say anything.
as everyone was conversing, she turned behind her. "we are going in the right direction, right?"
hook who was behind her, raised a brow. "you can't read a map, can you, love?"
she bit her lip, shaking her head. "i've been guessing. they just assumed i could and i was too scared to say I couldn't. i failed orientation every time we did it. no surprise there. it just confuses me, like how do i know i'm going in the right direction?"
hook chuckled. "i'll keep an eye on the map, make sure you get it right."
she sighed, sending him a smile he wanted to see more often. yes, he liked when she glared and gave attitude but god did he like her smile too. "thank you. really."
he did just as he said he would. when she got slightly confused, she would turn her head to look at him and he'd guide her. it was a gentle manoeuvre of her body in the direction she needed to turn. his hand barely grazing her hip as he guided her.
"how much further?" regina grumbled.
"we should be getting close to pan's lair, we're going on a straight-line course," she informed, glancing back to hook who sent her a subtle nod. she looked back to the map, frowning when the x moved. "wait—son of a bitch! how is it now behind us?"
"how can that be?" mary margaret questioned.
"you got us lost," regina answered.
ophelia knew that was very likely.
hook held the lamp closer to the map. "no, she didn't. it's the camp. pan's moving it."
"he's playing tricks on us," david breathed.
"if pan's camp keeps moving how are we ever gonna find henry?" emma grabbed the map from ophelia, analysing it. "so, this whole track has been for nothing?"
ophelia narrowed her eyes at her sister. "sure just take the map, it's fine."
"i told you walking was idiotic. i suggest using magic. we can materialize in the camp and grab henry," regina seethed.
"we don't know where the camp is. have you even been listening?" mary margaret exclaimed.
"pan'll have shields against magic, i fear. su ch an attempt would end in your death and more importantly, mine. that's why we are walking," hook reminded.
