chapter fourteen - death becomes her

when ophelia found out that mary margaret tricked regina into causing her own mother's death, she was pissed off. she wanted nothing more than to reach out to regina and apologise and comfort her. it wasn't okay. what snow did was beyond not okay. but ophelia knew that she was one of the last people regina would want to see at that moment. her mother was dead for god sake, and ophelia recognised that all regina really wanted was to be loved by her and by others. she had that for a second before her mother died.

ophelia, despite being angry, also felt horrible for mary margaret, who wouldn't move from her spot on her bed. she felt terrible. they all sat around at the counter.

"anything?" emma asked as david walked back over to them.

david shook his head, "she won't eat a bite."

"what's wrong with her?" henry questioned.

"nothing. she's just a little sick," emma lied.

ophelia rolled her eyes as david and emma shared a look, one that made it obvious they were lying. not that either was great at lying to henry anyway. that kid was getting way too good at sniffing out lies.

"you guys are lying to me, aren't you?"

"no one's lying," emma reassured.

"you are, just like you did about my dad," henry continued.

ophelia smiled, proud that he was standing up for himself. "he's got you there."

when henry flinched away from emma trying to comfort him, she changed her mind, "he's right. no more lying."

"emma..."

"he deserves to know. here's the thing, henry. cora's death... mary margaret was partially responsible for it, and that's why she's so upset," emma revealed.

"no. no, no, she couldn't," henry denied. someone knocked at the door. david got up to answer it.

"she was trying to protect us," ophelia comforted.

"but she's snow white. she wouldn't hurt anybody," he insisted.

ophelia sighed again, placing a hand on his shoulder, "sometimes good people do bad things, henry. the world isn't black and white. mary margaret is human and to be human is to make mistakes. like putting salt instead of sugar or murdering your technical grandma."
