ophelia swan had spent her life in and out of care. in and out of families. the only constant in her messy life had been her sister, emma swan. the pair had been left on the side of the road together with nothing more than a baby blanket each, their name stitched into them.

it was the only other thing they always had, besides each other.

the pair were pretty different for twins. where emma was serious, ophelia was not. where emma built her life up and became a bail bonds woman after she was released from prison, ophelia let hers crumble to the ground (on more than one occasion).

it was safe to say, ophelia swan had no clue what she was doing with her life. she was living day to day, just surviving.

because that's all she'd known. she'd only ever been taught how to survive.

before this, she had met hayley. she had finally learnt what it was like to live. she loved her like she'd never loved anyone before and that love made her feel like she could be more. do more. and so she did. she enrolled in law school. she set to get her life on track.

and in a single moment and a twist of cruel fate, her life flew off the rails once more. she tried to keep it up for a year before the guilt of the accident twisted her insides so far that she had to leave. she had to drop out. this wasn't the life for her. she didn't deserve a good life. after all, she'd caused the accident. she'd killed her fiancee.

her life was right back where it was before. she had no direction. no clue. she had nothing but emma and a stupid blanket.

until emma's child she had put up for adoption when she was eighteen and facing jail time for the crime her ex-boyfriend committed, showed up at their door. upon hearing him reveal who he was, ophelia forced emma to let him in and hear him out.

and then she forced her to drive him back to 'storybrooke' and insisted the pair should stay long enough to ensure he settled back down alright.

that day or two she promised henry with his mom turned into a lot longer as her nephew went on and on about her being some sort of saviour. she didn't believe him for a second but she let him tell her all the stories he loved.

besides, apart from being a little strange, the town wasn't all that bad. emma became sheriff after the previous one died. ophelia waitressed a granny's sometimes. despite its odd aura, she liked the place and only laughed lightly when henry pointed out who each person 'used to be'.

until he almost died saving her from a poisoned apple. she couldn't laugh then. not when he collapsed. not when she partnered with regina, his adoptive mother, to save him. especially not when she had to defeat a dragon to help him.

the final piece that proved everything he had said, was when she kissed his forehead in a teary goodbye and he awoke. as did the entire town, each member remembering who they were before the curse.
