chapter thirteen - evil (step) mom
ophelia was more than happy to let emma interrogate gold as she stood, staring out at the water. she wasn't paying attention as henry stood by her, grateful for the quiet and calm beside her.
they had to take a smaller boat from the ship to the dock. ruby had gotten to them first, helping neal carry gold.
mary margaret and david climbed out of their car, the former running towards them, calling out. "are you okay?"
emma assured them that they were as henry informed them that neal had taught him how to drive a ship, also revealing the fact that he was his dad.
gold leaned against the truck, ophelia approaching. "you okay?"
"i'll ignore the threats from earlier but i'm beginning to feel a bit stronger," gold replied.
"uh, yeah, i saved your life, you better ignore them," she retorted.
"take me back to my shop. there's magic there that can protect us."
"let me guess. i get to go with ruby," henry sighed.
"you got it, kid," emma replied.
ruby placed a hand on his back, "i'll keep him out of the crossfire."
"thank you," mary margaret breathed.
"don't look so worried. you'll stop cora. you won't let her get away," henry encouraged.
ophelia watched him walk away, raising a brow. "jesus, i wish i had that kid's fucking enthusiasm... and optimism."
---
apparently a part of healing gold was finding strange objects, including a large and very empty jar. emma entered jar in hand.
"emma, did you find it?" gold asked.
"yeah. there's nothing in it," she answered, shaking the jar. there was a small clinking sound. "what the hell?" she placed her hand in the jar, pulling something out.
"invisible chalk. use it in the front doorway. draw a line. the rest of you, you might want to prepare for battle," he informed, his voice shaky.
"you're fucking with me now, invisible chalk? no fucking—" ophelia was interrupted by emma yanking her away and towards the front door.
ophelia watched, almost laughing as emma drew an invisible line with invisible chalk on the floor. it was when neal began talking to her that she stopped paying attention.
"don't be a douche, neal," ophelia called from her spot in the shop where she was playing with a snow globe.
she wanted to scream when she went to the back of the shop and gold told her she would be the one casting the protection spell.
