Skylar

I scream out in terror when the glass shatters around me, my scream matching Muriel's and Cairo's. I screamed out again as I saw a grey wolf come through it, followed by others.

Ryder growls protectively and hands me to Alec. I clutch at Alec's shirt, trembling. It was loud, the house filled with growls that seemed never ending.

"Take them to the safe place and then come back immediately," Ryder orders. Alec nods stiffly and pries me off his shirt. Another wolf bursts through the window and they attack.

"No!" I scream as they start to attack Ethan and Ryder. I know they won't get that hurt but a part of me is still worried. They're strong-unbelievably strong - but not invincible.

"Shush, Skylar. He'll be alright," he says. He grabs Muriel and Cairo on our way out the back door and we walk into the backyard.

Why were the wolves not following us? Are they just going to let us escape? Wh-

I spoke too soon. Two wolves with dark grey fur bursts through the woods and shake the debris off. One had a broken shoulder and I watch in amazement/horror as it instantly heals, making a gruesome sound and a crack. Were they supposed to heal that fast?

Alec pulls a knife. One that I didn't know he had in his pocket and throws it at one of the wolves. It hits him dead in his heart and I scream when it starts to heal around it. The wolf shifts back, it was even more graphic. The skin was really stitching itself back around the knife. The man screams in pain and I instantly wanted to help him. I feel like I basically committed murder watching this man die.

The other grey wolf was distracted, frozen, watching the man die.

Alec shifts and attacks the other wolf, instantly grabbing him by the scruff, cracking his neck. The man shifts back to human too and I realize that the two fallen wolves look alike. They both had black hair and blue eyes. But the wolf with the knife in his heart, who was still struggling, was more muscular and taller. He looked so helpless. I just had to help him. I've already watched too many people die. No one was paying attention to me anyway. Cairo and Muriel were standing off in the front, to the right. The dying man was to the left so I sneak off to him. He was desperately trying to get the knife out, but he was too weak. I could save him. I just had to take the knife out for him.

I place my hands around the knife with my trembling hands . Should I do this? Should I save him?

"Skylar, what are you doing!?" I hear Muriel yell. Her hands were on my shoulders, pulling me back.

"I have to save him! I can't just let him die!" I wail.

"You have to let him die. He's not a good man," Muriel says. I wish I could see her facial expression as well as this, but she was behind me. How could she say that so easily? No one deserved to die.

"It doesn't matter! I just don't want to watch someone else die," I admit. She sighs, knowing I'm thinking about my father. I'm done watching men die. Whether they're important to me or not, it's just not right. I'm only seventeen, I shouldn't have to go through this.

"Skylar," Cairo says, grabbing both my wrists to keep me from pulling the knife out. I look over at him, he only has seconds left. Blood was on his chest, except it wasn't even red. It was almost silver. Why do they have silver blood?

"Skylar. He's already probably dead. And you know your mate?" she asks. I nod, knowing where she's going at.

"Well he's with the wolves in there trying to kill them. If he dies in there, know that you saved the wolf who was eventually going to kill him."
