Chapter 14

Neito's POV

When Tenya went to unlock the door, it was already opened. We exchanged glances, and I cracked the door a little to eavesdrop.
"Nei-"
"Shh... Do you want us to get caught..?!"
"Fine then... Carry on..."
Honestly, I have no idea why it surprised me. I already foreshadowed it, yet it still caught me off guard.

"I told you, it's the best choice for our families!" The first voice said.
"No, it's not! What if it's temporary?!" A second called out.
"So what?! And if it is then we need to do it as soon as possible!"
"And what?! Screw their lives over?!"
"No! I'm just saying, this could be what we need! And if it works, we have an heir for both families! Maybe even one each."
"Can we please not discuss this now? What if they hear?" A third pipped.
"Oh please, Tenya has the confidence of a donut, she knows it's rude to eavesdrop." The first voice said back.

"Neito..?"
"Yeah, Tenya..?"
"What's going on, you've always known this kind of stuff..."
"You know what I told you at the mall..?"
"The part when Tetsutetsu called-"
"Not that part..! The last part..."
"Something about our gender I think..?"
"Mhm. I think that's what they're arguing about..."
"Arguing over whether I'm truly female or not..?"
"No..! Our parents are trying to set us up and my dad's trying to stop it."
"Set up..?"
"Romance, Tenya..."
"O H... Okay, I think I get it now... Like marriage..?"
"N- wait, actually yes, it is like marriage..."
"Okay... So what do we do..?"
"Just wait until they stop yelling, if we go too early then it'll be like walking into open fire..."
"Do we walk in or do I lock and unlock the door..?"
"Either works, but preferably the first option... We just need to keep listening..."
"Okay..."

Tenya then closed the door as lightly as possible, with it making a small creak.
"Tenya..!"
"Sorry... Sorry..."
"Dang it, they stopped talking..! I think they heard us..?!"
"Just get up and act accordingly..!"
Tenya's father, Uncle Tenyu, then opened the door.
"Oh, it's just you both," He said, opening the door.
"Thank you, Father."
"Thank you Uncle Tenyu."
"Don't worry about it, kiddos."

"Neito. Tenya." Father said from his seat in Mother's lap.
"Sorry about all of the yelling, these two won't just save it for later... But don't worry about it."
"Mhm, we wanted to talk to you both about something else." Auntie Eleven added.
"Something correlated to the yelling?" Tenya asked.
"No, we just wanted to have both of our families here, but also for your opinion on some stuff." I started to worry if I was right about it. I mean, I wouldn't mind it, but I think it has to grow by itself.
"What stuff..."
"Oh, the Aoyamas and probably the Yaoyorozus are having a costume party and I wanted matching costumes." Uncle Tenyu blatantly said from the kitchen.
"Priorities, much?"
"No."

"Oh, I thought something bad happened..." I was thinking the exact same thing.
"Nope! If something did I would've made it more urgent. You both can go to your room or something, we'll call you both down when we need you."
Tenya responded with an "Okay!" before we went upstairs.

"I did not see that coming."
"What do you mean by 'see'?"
"Nothing, nothing."
"Okay..."
Tenya then went over to the bookshelf in her room and I plopped myself on her bed.
I then tried to start a conversation. "So... Read any good books lately..?"
"Not quite. Father passed down his favorite book series to me before we moved into the dorms, and I'm somewhat lost."
"Really? What book series is it?"
"Oh, Twilight I think."
"O h... No wonder you're so lost, it's a romance with a side of urban fantasy."
"Romance? I had no idea Father liked romance since he's married."
"Tenya, as long as he isn't cheating, no one cares."
"I mean, I certainly do..."
"No one but you cares."
"That's somewhat true."
"Somewhat as in..."
"Somewhat as in Tensei and Mother."
"Oh, right."

We then went back into an awkward silence, awkward for me at least, and I started to fiddle with my fingers as Tenya was still searching for a specific book.
"Actually, I did accidentally leave one of Father's books here. If I'm correct, it's the last one in the series."
"Which one is that?"
Tenya then plucked a book of the fourth shelf, "It's called '50 Shades of Grey' apparently."
Oh... Oh no...
"Tenya... Maybe you should give it back to your father..."
"Why should I?"
"That's an 'adult book'..."
"'Adult book'? Like 'Young Adult Fiction?"
"No... Like, more than just kissing..." I said as I tried to gently, ever so gently, rip the book out of her hands.
She then snatched it back, "What do you mean by 'more than just kissing'..?"
"Uhm... Babymaking..?" She then dropped the book as if she were holding a spider.

"So... now that you know. How about we read it..."
"Neito no! It has adult stuff!"
"So what? It's just a little [s-word w/ 3 letters]. What har-"
I then realized what exactly I said. And Tenya was switching her gaze between me and the door.
"Tenya... How about we talk this out..? Maybe even over some tea..?" She then pounced past me towards the door, dang engines, and missed the door handle and accidentally slammed into the door.

3rd POV

The adults heard a thud against one of the doors upstairs.
"That can't be good..."
"Trust me, it never is."
Eleven then sprinted up the stairs, but before she could even get the doorknob, "Neito said a swear word!"
"I didn't mean to!"
"Settle down you two, now what did he say exactly..."
"He said 'It's just a little s-word'!"

For just a second, everyone froze in silence, until Tenyu nudged Okane and he coughed up a 50.
(in American dollars, because it sounds better using dollars and I don't know how to translate it)
"Neito. You have ten seconds to explain yourself. And Tenyu, Okane, you both are next."
"W-well! Tenya said that her dad gave her '50 Shades of Grey' and I said that we should read it and Tenya said no and I didn't mean to say the [s-word that ends in x] part..!"
"*Gasp*! Neito!"
"That checks out, as for Tenyu," Eleven said, shifting her gaze from the children to her husband. "Why the h—l did you give Tenya your Twilight books."
"I thought she'd like them."
"You thought she'd- You know what? Just- go to your room."
"I'm 56-"
"I said, go. To. Your. Room."
Tenyu then awkwardly left, and Eleven turned back to the children.

"Neito."
"Y-Yes Auntie Eleven?"
"If this happens a second time, then you both aren't allowed in a room alone together. Got it?"
"Mhm!"
"Now come downstairs, we need to tell you both a couple things."

They went downstairs and took a seat at the table they had just in front of their kitchen, and Eleven started to speak.
"Tuesday, your classes will be working with our agency as sidekicks and such, so you both will be staying here to help us out."
"Furthermore," Hōseki started to say, "Neito was venting out to me, as he does, and told me that you need your costume resized but didn't want to have Nina resize it."
"So we called the school and set up an appointment with this Hatsume girl." (dang rich people)
"I'm sorry to interrupt, Mother. But she's a he right now..."
"Oh, that does make a little more sense. Anyway, you have about an hour and a half so I suggest you get going."
"Yes, Mother!" Tenya said as she speed-walked towards the door.

"So..." Neito asked.
"Right, the Aoyama's are having a party,as I said earlier, and they invited us. We just got the costumes and I wanted to see if they got the right measurements."
"So you want me to try on dresses..?"
"Not exactly dresses, but yes," Hōseki added.
Eleven then took the box that was on the counter, opened it, and pulled out two suits with peacock feather capes.
"Just try them both on and if neither of them fit, or the one that does fit is the smaller one, then give them to me and I'll make sure to get them resized."

Well, at least I don't have to try on dresses. I took the costumes into the bathroom, and they look to be the right size.
The outer coat was a navy blue, along with the pants. The dress shirt under it was a turquoise color and had a silk, green tie tied around the collar. And to tie it all off, there was a peafowl feather in the front pocket and a cape made of them. Like the vampire capes but made of f—king feathers. Can't believe I'll have to wear this... Unless...
