Delilah jolts awake to the sound of Lilith vomiting into the wastebin. She turned the monitor's volume up as high as it would allow, so she'd wake up. She throws the covers back and jumps out of bed in her cow print pajamas that her Grandmother had gotten her that Christmas.
The pajamas looked absolutely dorky, but they sure were comfortable. She runs down the hallway to her sister's room nextdoor.
She finds Lilith sitting up, in her bed, hunched over the wastebin, throwing up. Delilah rushes over and sits beside her, rubbing her back as she empties her stomach. After a few minutes, She's only dry heaving, and Delilah gets up to wet a rag for her.
She returns and Lilith is sobbing, rubbing her neck on both sides, something she does when she gets nervous.
"DeeDee," Lilith sobs. "I'm so sorry." Delilah knew things were serious when Lilith called her 'DeeDee.' The only times she calls her that is when she's sick, crying, sick, or when something is very wrong. Like when their Grandfather passed away due to cancer. Lilith was in Austin with their mother visiting him, and Delilah had to stay in Dallas for an orchestra competition. Lilith called her and told her, her first word being "DeeDee." She instantly knew that something was wrong.
"It's okay, it's okay." She softly says, trying to comfort her sister. "Here, sit up, I'll get some pillows." She says and her sister sits up.
Delilah piles pillows up into a hill and makes Lilith lay back, propping her upper body upright.
She lays the rag on the back of her neck and says, "I'll be right back, try and be still." before she walks out.
She quickly trots down the stairs to get her something to drink and some crackers to put in her stomach.
Since Lilith hadn't eaten at all that day, -She never eats before she goes drinking, Delilah grabs some saltine crackers from the pantry.
Delilah makes her sister a glass of grapefruit juice, because once again, she hadn't eaten and her blood sugar should be pretty low.
She goes to the medicine cabinet and shakes a nausea pill out of the bottle. This will help with her nausea, and it will help her sleep.
When she goes back to Lilith's room, she's sniffling and wiping her cheeks. She gives her the stuff and tells her to take the medicine.
"Are you sleepy?" She asks. Lilith shakes her head as she sips on the juice. "X-men?" Delilah asks. Lilith stops drinking.
"X-men." She nods. Delilah smiles when Lilith does. She goes to the DVD player and slips the disc into the tray.
When either of the sisters are sick, upset, or just bored, they watch X-men. X-men is their thing, more Delilah's than Lilith's.
She starts up the movie and sits on the bed with Lilith as she munches her crackers.
"I'm sorry you're having to take care of me, DeeDee." She sniffles.
"Ah, ah, ah, don't say that. It's fine, that's what I'm here for." Delilah says. Lilith lays her head on her sisters shoulder and continues eating.
The movie plays on for another thirty minutes and the sisters quote the movie at their favorite parts.
When Bobby gives Rogue the little ball of ice, Delilah expects for Lilith to say "Welcome to Mutant High." with Bobby, because it's one of her favorite quotes from the movie, but she doesn't. She looks over and sees Lilith fast asleep.
Delilah slips out from beside her and lays her head on a pillow. She stops the DVD, turns everything off and slips away to go back to her room.
She then checks her phone. It's 3:25 am. She has a text from David. "how's Lily?" she starts to type a response.
"just woke up to her throwing up. made her drink a big glass of grapefruit juice and made her eat crackers. I also gave her one of her nausea pills, and she's fast asleep." she sends and lays down in her bed. Her phone never buzzes and she never falls asleep.
For a while, she counted sheep. Then, she listened to Millennia. Then, she got up and made sure Lilith was okay, she was fine. Finally at about five am, Delilah gave up on sleep. She got up and took a shower, taking her time.
Needless to say, she kept the baby monitor on the counter. Lilith didn't stir.
After she got out, it was six. She dressed in a pair of slip on Vans, her favorite pair of worn out blue skinny jeans, and a long sleeved shirt.
She checked on Lilith again, and she'd rolled over since three am. She was snoring.
Delilah went downstairs with the baby monitor and her laptop and blogged for a bit. A bit turned into three hours.
Just after nine, someone knocked on the door. Delilah got up only to find Levi.
She explained to him that Lilith was sleeping and sick, leaving out the fact that she'd been totally shitfaced drunk the night before.
He left, saying he'd come back when he got off work at five. She said okay.
Lilith stumbled down the stairs at ten, rubbing her stomach. Oddly, she was dressed. She was never dressed at ten on a Saturday.
Ten am was about the time Lilith would roll over and fart. She often told Delilah about her farting schedule, much to her disinterest.
"I'm fine, just hungry." Lilith says. "Grits or Oatmeal?" Delilah asks, closing her computer.
"I was thinking about Molly's. I'd kill for some hash and rice." She grins. Delilah raises her eyebrows. "Really?"
"Really, I was thinking about it last night." Lilith says. "Alright." She smiles and gets up.
They end up going to Molly's, sitting outside at their usual table under the umbrella.
"Levi came by before you woke up." Delilah says, tearing off little bites of garlic bread and popping them into her mouth.
Lilith's eyes light up, but only for a second. "Really?"
She nods, chewing her food. "He's coming back by when he gets off work."
Lilith sighs. "He really likes you, y'know." Delilah says.
"I know he does, I just feel bad." Lilith mumbles.
"Well, I think that Brent likes you." She says, changing the subject. "What makes you think that?" Delilah asks, truly dumbfounded.
"I can just feel it." Lilth shrugs her shoulders. She got feelings about people, whether they be good or bad.
Delilah couldn't help but hope that her sister was right, because she sure as hell liked Brent.
