Chapter 43: I'm What?

~Lilly~

"Hey, well, it was awesome to hang out with you, Zach. Thanks. But I think we should go," Nico said.

"Sure thing, man! We'll catch up with you later. Oh, hey, Lilly?" Zach asked.

"Yeah," I replied.

"Uh, can I talk to you in private for a second?"

"Sure."

I followed Zach back towards his room. He shut his door and faced me, brushing his hand through his black hair.

"I have this bad feeling about something with you. Would you mind coming down to the hospital with me so I can do a test or two on you to see if I'm correct?" Zach asked.

I stared at him. "Um...yeah, sure, I guess. What do you think is wrong with me?"

He looked down at his feet. "I...I don't want to tell you until I'm completely sure. So I'm going to work at around one, can I pick you up?"

I nodded. "Yeah. Just stop by my house and I'll be there. I'll see you then."

I kissed him on the cheek and walked out of his room. I couldn't look at Nico, but he took my hand.

"You ready-"

"Let's go, Nico," I said softly.

I turned and hugged Ash tightly. She hugged me back and moved backwards, away from Nico.

"Are you okay?" Ash asked softly.

"I'm scared. Zach said he's worried about something with me. He's taking me to the hospital to get me tested before he tells me. Ash, please, I'm begging you, come with me. I don't want to tell Nico. I want you to come. Please," I whispered super soft.

"I'll make him bring me. He will take me with him. If he doesn't, I will be there one way or another and I swear on the River Styx."

"Gods, thank you!"

I walked out with Nico and drove home. We stayed in my room until one. I heard a car outside.

"I, uh, I have to go, Nico. I shouldn't be super long. You're welcome to stay here, or you can do whatever you want," I said.

"Wait! Where are you going?" Nico asked.

"Uh, somewhere with Ash. I'll be back, I swear."

I kissed him and left. I ran outside and hopped into the backseat, considering that Ash was in the front.

"You alright, Lill?" Ash asked.

"No! I'm freaking out! Zach, please hurry! I want to know what you think is wrong with me!" I said.

He sighed and we went to the hospital in silence. He did all his stuff and Ash sat with me through the couple tests he took me through. Then he came back into the room with a super sad look on his face.

"I was right," he whispered. "I'm so sorry, Lilly."

"What's wrong with me?" I asked.

He wouldn't look at me. "You...you can't have kids."

Zachary's words hung in the air as I tried to process them. Ash gasped and I let my head fall as the tears started running down my face.

"What?" I asked softly.

"Lillian, you cannot have kids. And yours is a rare case. There's nothing anyone could do to let you have children of your own," Zach said.

I felt two pairs of arms around me, but I swirled snow around myself and landed in my room, crying my eyes out. Nico wasn't there, but I found a note sitting on my pillow.
