By the next day, I was still a little unnerved and I did all I could to avoid Bepo. I didn’t need him worrying about me, or worse, asking me to explain. The next morning Trafalgar actually showed up to breakfast for once. If possible, his eyes looked even more sunken back, as if he hadn’t slept since the last time I saw him. I tried my best to ignore him as he spoke to Bepo while eating. Shachi was telling some story, but I wasn’t listening. I tried to focus on anything other than the two pairs of eyes staring at my back. I tried focusing on the noise of the crew talking, laughing, shouting but that only made it worse. I needed to get out of there, needed some fresh air. I froze when I heard footsteps coming from behind me.
“Raven-ya, could you come with me?” Trafalgar asked from behind me. His voice sounded lazy, but I knew better than to assume that what he asked was a question. I nodded my head and stood to face him. He began to walk out of the dining room and I followed. We walked down the hallway and went into a room right next to the off-limits room. The smell and colors of the place reminded me of a hospital room. “I just need to give you a check up.” He told me while coming up next to me whith a paper and pen.
He took me height, 6 foot, my weight, 160 lbs, and a bunch of other regular tests.
“If you’ll take off your shirt,” Hat-kun shifted through some files on his desk, attempting to find the sheet he needed. “I need to take a few x-rays.” Now, I’m not one to get nervous but I found myself hesitating. I pulled the black shirt that Bepo gave me over my head. On instinct, I crossed my arms in front of me but all that did was get an amused smirk out of Trafalgar.
“Over here.” He motioned over to a machine. I stood where he told me to and waited. I felt self-conscious, not so much for being shirtless but because of all my tattoos. I know it is silly, especially since he has more than I do but they are something I showed no one the last 4 years that I’ve been living a normal life. After a few more X-rays Hat-kun led me back to his desk. I pulled on my shirt while he picked up a new paper.
“Bepo told me that something happened yesterday,” Hat-kun stopped, gauging my reaction. I left my face blank, giving away nothing. “Care to tell me what that was about?”
I couldn’t look him in the eyes, so I looked between his eyes. “I don’t know.” I lied.
He raised an eyebrow, “Is that so?” he didn’t believe me. “You wouldn’t be lying to your captain?” I shook my head no, I’m a terrible liar.
“C-can I go?” I said while pointing towards the door. I cursed my voice for stuttering. He held my gaze for another 15 seconds before finally nodding his head. I calmly walked out of the room, but the moment I got to the hallway I sprinted up onto the deck.
