"The only demons that exist are the ones that we create for ourselves."

The next morning I groggily sat up in my bed, half awake. Streams of light penetrated my window and cast its blinding light over my room. I held my hand up to shield my face from the sun’s harmful rays. I glanced at my clock and groaned when I noticed the time. I swung my legs off of my bed and planted my feet onto the floor. Then, I sluggishly made my way into the kitchen, intending on making breakfast.

I was about to pour myself some cereal when three loud knocks sounded at my door. I groaned in annoyance, Why is someone at my door this early?

“Raven, are you in there?” Mari’s voice called out. Why does she sound so frantic?

“Ya, I’m coming!” I yelled as I made my ways towards the door. The moment I unlocked the door Mari was forcing her way inside and had shut the door before I realized that she had come in. She was grasping a paper in her hand and the look on her face had been true horror.

“Child, you must look at this!” She instructed while shoving the paper into my hands. My heart was pounding as I unrumpled the paper with shaking hands. What has gotten Mari so spooked? As I unfolded the paper my heart stopped, it’s the front page of a newspaper. The main article was something about Fire Fist Ace being captured and there was also a follow-up article on the Enies Lobby incident, those weren’t what caused me such distress. The article I was concerned with was smaller, but it was still there all the same. “Super Nova, Trafalgar Law, has a girlfriend” was the heading and below it was a picture of us. In the picture was Hat-kun, or rather Trafalgar Law, holding my protectively while a few thugs charged us.

“W-what?” I managed to mutter out.

“It gets worse.” Mari said gravely. “The marines have already been to the bar looking for you.” I let the paper slip from my hands and flutter to the floor as I take in all of this information. “I’ll try to distract the navy for as long as I can but you’ve got to get packing!” Mari told me as she ran out the front door, probably going to find the marines. If I had known that this would be the last time I would ever see her then I would have said goodbye or something, instead I just stood there, still in shock.

No, not again! I don’t want to be chased out by the navy again! It’s all Trafalgar’s fault! With a rage filled mind I sorted through my drawers and dug out some clothes. I pulled on a long sleeve red shirt that cuts off at my mid stomach and black, baggy shorts that came to the top of my thighs. I also slipped on a pair of black combat boots before throwing a black cloak over my shoulders. I store at myself in the mirror, not wanting to leave. I’m not particularly pretty but my hair attracts lots of unwanted attention. It’s wavy and falls down to my lower back. The color had once been described as the color of the moonlight. In my silver locks is my birthmark, a strip of midnight blue on the right side of my scalp. It’d been nearly four years since I had worn clothes like that, I’d become rather pale.

Three rough knocks had interrupted my train of thought. “Open up! It’s the marines!” a rugged voiced ordered. Crap! I forgot all about the navy! I grabbed my small bag of clothing and leapt out my back window.

“Stop!” I marine shouted at me as he aimed his gun. Of course they’d have marines surrounding my house.

“Out of my way, I’m in a bad mood” I warned him but he didn’t budge. Does he have a death wish? Oh, well, I guess I’ll oblige. I took out a pistol that was concealed in my cloak and fired it once. Blood squirted from his chest before he collapsed to the ground, lifeless. The death was instant, allowing him no time to scream, but the gunshot would alert the others.

“She’s over there!” another marine shouted and in a matter of seconds I was fully encircled. Only nine men? They must not have figured out who I really am yet or else they would have sent more. Heck, they probably should have sent a vice-admiral. But I’m glad they didn’t considering how I don’t have my usual weapon.

“You’re in my way,” I grumbled at the men.

“Miss, if you come with us quietly then we won’t have to hurt you,” the same man who knocked on my door told me. Won’t hurt me? What a load of BS. In one motion, I swiftly pulled the other pistol from my cloak and fired off nine shots. All nine men fell to the ground simultaneously, dead, and with bullets between their eyes.

“Where are you Trafalgar Law?” I growled into the morning sky in a fit of rage.
