After escaping from High Inquisitor Jerec, Stain along with Jinx and O-Mer were resting in the Ghost alongside the Spectres. As the Dark Jedi meditated, the Spectres met up at the cockpit to discuss them.

Zeb: So what exactly are we doing with those three?

Sabine: They don't look like your average Jedi.

Kanan: They're not. The way they fought was not a way a Jedi would fight. It was aggressive. But it's clear they don't have any love for the Empire.

Kanan looked at the camera footage of Stain meditating alongside Jinx and O-Mer.

Ezra: You said you knew the leader. Stendhal, right?

Kanan: That's right. But something's wrong with him. I can feel the Dark Side with him.

Hera: You should probably have a talk with them to learn their intentions. I'll transfer the data back to the Alliance.

With that, Kanan and Ezra left the cockpit to speak with Stain and his acolytes. As the two Jedi entered the room, Stain stopped meditating.

Kanan: Stendhal.

Stain: I am no longer Stendhal. I am Stain.

Kanan: I didn't expect to find you here in Lothal. I heard you were on Kashyyyk when Order 66 was given.

Stain was silent as he reflected on what happened to him during Order 66. He remembered how he was on the verge of death and his fight for survival.

Stain: We were blind to the threat that lurked among us.

Ezra: You mean the Empire?

Stain: No. The Empire is but a symptom of a far more terrible disease. A disease that has festered in the Jedi Order itself.

Kanan: What disease?

Stain: Jedi is a title reserved for those who serve the Light. But there are far too many false Jedi with the taint of the Dark Side. They allowed our order to become blind to the threat that was lurking among us. And when Palpatine struck, the false Jedi were quick to join his new order. Until this society wakes up and rectifies itself...I will continue to do my work.

As Stain said this, Kanan looked down to see multiple Lightsabers hanging from his belt.

Kanan: Where did you get those Lightsabers?

Stain: Relics from the false Jedi I've killed.

Ezra: You murdered Jedi!?

Stain: I purged the fake and the corrupt. They were unworthy of the title of Jedi. They were a blight on the Force.

As Stain said this, Kanan and Ezra were left disturbed. Kanan remembered fighting General Grievous alongside his Master Depa Billaba during the Clone Wars. To see a fellow Jedi practicing the same habit of trophy collecting with Lightsabers offended him.

Kanan: How does this make you better than the Inquisitors?

Stain: Because I am a servant of the Living Force. Two Jedi....one true to the Force and the others false and unworthy. They allow the Dark Side to grow. They allowed the Sith to win. Justice must be served! The False Jedi must be purged from the Galaxy! No truths, no falsehoods, no boundaries to cross. All that we know exists as a maelstrom of chaos! I am the faceless ideal. One who acts without really existing. I will dye this chaotic Galaxy red with the blood of the unworthy. The blood that flows from me is proof enough. It is the path I leave in my wake! A path to serve as a guide for others! These bloodstains will never fade!

Kanan: You're insane.

Stain: The Galaxy is insane. It is a maelstrom of chaos. I use the Dark to serve the Light. Even my own Master serves them.

Ezra: You mean the High Inquisitor?

Stain: Yes. He was once my master. He taught me in the ways of the Force. But now he has betrayed the Jedi Order. Now he must die.

It was clear to Kanan and Ezra that Stain felt that his cause was justified. But in their minds, it was a vengeful bloodlust.

Stain: My acolytes and I were as blind to the truth as the rest of the Jedi. But we have seen the truth. You two....you two are different. You have not been corrupted. You remain pure servants of the Light.

Kanan: What do you want?

Stain: We share a common enemy. My former master. Jerec. The High Inquisitor. He seeks your death as he does mine.

Ezra: You're not seriously asking to work with us, are you?! You're crazy! You're just as bad as the Inquisitors!

Stain: I once thought as you do, boy. I once fell victim to a selfish pursuit of revenge. But a true Jedi showed me the error of my ways. She showed me what I was lacking. I lacked the determination needed to carry out true justice! I was narrow minded! I was a fool!

Kanan took a moment to think of his options. While he couldn't approve of Stain's ideology, Stain was able to hold his own against Jerec while he and Ezra were barely able to do so.

Kanan: As much as I don't like this, we'll accept your help.

Stain: In time, perhaps you will see the truth as I have seen it.

Though he wasn't thrilled with it, Kanan would accept Stain's help in the fight against Jerec. However, he would keep a close eye on both Stain and his acolytes. With that, an uneasy alliance was formed between Stain and the crew of the Ghost in their fight against the Empire. For Stain, all that mattered was the mission.
