Once Stain and his Acolytes reached Lothal, the Dark Jedi quickly began scouring the Imperial occupied planet for their target. Meanwhile at an Imperial Outpost, the Rebel Cell known as Spectres were conducting a raid on the outpost. Kanan Jarrus and his unofficial Padawan Ezra Bridger were covering for Spectre Leader Hera Syndulla as well as Mandalorian Sabine Wren and Lasat Zeb Orrelios. As the two Jedi deflected the blaster shots from the Stormtroopers, the High Inquisitor approached the Jedi. As he ignited his crimson Lightsaber, the two Jedi turn to their fellow Rebels.

High Inquisitor: So you are the Jedi who killed the Grand Inquisitor? How disappointing.

Ezra: You're going down!

Kanan: Easy there, Ezra. Last thing we need to do is get ourselves killed. Hera, take the others and secure the intel. Ezra and I will handle this.

Hera: Copy. Just be careful.

With that, Hera along with Sabine and Zeb went ahead while Kanan and Ezra dueled the High Inquisitor. The High Inquisitor was able to hold his own against the two Jedi.

High Inquisitor: Is that the best you can do?

Ezra: Stick around and find out!

High Inquisitor: Pride won't get you nowhere, young man. And neither will that Lightsaber of yours.

Ezra then uses the blaster portion of his Lightsaber to shoot at the High Inquisitor, but the High Inquisitor was able to block the shots with ease. However, this moment of distraction allowed Kanan to press the attack on the High Inquisitor.

High Inquisitor: Just because there are two of you, don't assume you have the advantage.

Kanan: We'll see about that.

Kanan and Ezra continued to duel against the High Inquisitor, but the High Inquisitor proved too skilled for them.

Ezra: This guy's strong! What's the plan?!

Kanan: Follow my lead and keep your guard up!

Kanan and Ezra soon find themselves on the defensive as the High Inquisitor pressed the attack. Suddenly, the Stormtroopers with them are ambushed and killed by Jinx and O-Mer. As the Stormtroopers were killed, Stain arrived.

Ezra: We got company!

The High Inquisitor turned his attention away from the Jedi and focused on Stain and his Acolytes. Jinx and O-Mer did nothing as Stain approached the High Inquisitor. The two were silent for a moment. Stain then looked to the High Inquisitor with shame and anger in his eyes.

Stain: So you have fallen to the Dark Side and became a slave to the Sith? That is treason, Master Jerec.

The High Inquisitor removes his mask, revealing a Miraluka man with a thin black leather band across his nonexistent eyes. He had light brown balding hair and had curving tattoos around his mouth. Upon seeing the face of the High Inquisitor, Kanan recognizes him.

Kanan: Master Jerec! How....

Jerec: While in the Unknown Regions, I felt a great disturbance in the Force. When I returned, I then realized that the Jedi had been destroyed.

Kanan: So you betrayed everything we stand for to serve the Empire?

Jerec: I am a servant of His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor.

Stain: You have committed the crime of betraying the Jedi Order, You now serve the ancient enemies of the Jedi.

Jerec smirked as he sensed Stain's presence. It was a presence that was familiar to him.

Jerec: So you survived the purge...Stendhal.

Stain: I am Stendhal no longer. I am Stain. I am the righteous Saber of justice. I have been tasked by the Force to purge the Galaxy of Jedi who have betrayed the Order!  I have sought you out to pass judgement on you for your crimes against the Jedi Order.

Jerec: Watch your words, Stendhal. You may be powerful, but you were my apprentice. I am still your master.

Stain: You ceased to be my master when you sided with the Sith. You ceased to be my master when you betrayed the Jedi.

Stain then readied his two crimson Lightsabers with Jinx and O-Mer standing besides him. Kanan and Ezra become cautious about the situation.

Ezra: That doesn't look good.

Kanan: Be prepared for anything, Ezra. Something tells me this is about to get messy.

Stain kept his eyes on Jerec. The case of Jerec was unique to Stain for Jerec had once been his master. Now here he was standing as a servant to the Sith. Seeing this enraged Stain.

Jerec: I sense darkness in your, my old apprentice. You speak of cleansing the Galaxy of the Dark Side, yet here you are embracing it.

Stain: Do not mistake me, Jerec. I loathe the Dark Side with every fiber of my being. But I use my darkness as an instrument for the Light. What I do is for the good of the Galaxy. You are no Jedi. Those I hunt only call themselves Jedi. They bring shame to the name. They bring shame to the true Jedi who serve the Light. It is not enough that you die. You must be purged from the very Force itself. All false Jedi must be purged for a better society! By the right of the Jedi, by the will of the Force, I hereby sentence you, Jerec to death for your crimes against the Force.

In that moment, it was clear to not only Jerec, but also to Kanan and Ezra that Stain was no Jedi, but he was not Sith either. In Stain's eyes, all that mattered was the mission. He would cut down his former master in the name of his crusade.
