Chapter V - A Fateful Duel

The duel between Stendhal and Ahsoka had begun. The fallen Stendhal lunged at Ahsoka and unleashed a series of frenzied attacks on her. Ahsoka managed to block the attacks and soon Force Pushed him away. Stendhal aggressively pushed on Ahsoka, but Ahsoka was able to hold her own against him. 

Ahsoka: What does this slaughter gain you?

Stendhal: The opportunity to avenge our fallen brothers and sisters! I know that if I kill enough of their servants, they'll have no choice but to seek me out! And when they do, they'll know the unforgiving vengeance of the Jedi!

Stendhal once more pushed on Ahsoka. Stendhal was relentless in his assault on Ahsoka. He gave Ahsoka no room to pull off an attack. Ahsoka broke the assault by Force Pushing him away from her. She then lunged at Stendhal and the two locked blades. 

Ahsoka: I can feel your anger. If you don't stop this, it will consume you!

Stendhal: My anger is a tool! A tool that will be used to destroy the Sith! I will unleash my anger upon the Sith for what they've done! 

Stendhal once more put Ahsoka on the defense. Ahsoka began utilizing acrobatic moves to maneuver around Stendhal's attacks. This didn't stop Stendhal from keeping up the attack. At one point, Stendhal disarmed Ahsoka, but she was able to disarm Stendhal. Stendhal and Ahsoka engage in an intense fist fight. The two were equals. None were able to land the finishing blow on one another. 

Stendhal: You fight well, Ahsoka! You are truly a Jedi! It would be a shame to kill you!

Ahsoka: I don't intend to die, Stendhal! 

Ahsoka then broke through Stendhal's defenses and began to land powerful blows on Stendhal. Stendhal was able to power through Ahsoka's attacks and Force Pushed her away. Stendhal then uses the Force to pull his Lightsabers back to him. He then goes for an overhead strike, but Ahsoka was able to grab her Lightsabers and block Stendhal's attacks. As the battle was drawn out, Stendhal showed no sign of faltering. 

Stendhal: You are truly powerful in the Force, Ahsoka. You are everything a Jedi should be. 

Ahsoka: If you really believe that, then why are you trying to kill me?

Stendhal: Because times have changed. The Sith have changed. We must change too if we are to destroy them. The boundaries that held us back must now be crossed! 

Ahsoka: What you're asking is against everything the Jedi stand for. The Jedi do not seek vengeance. 

Stendhal: Only through vengeance can  we bring justice to our fallen brothers and sisters! 

It was at this moment that Stendhal charged at Ahsoka and once more engaged her in an intense duel. Stendhal was relentless in his assault, but Ahsoka was able to break through Stendhal's defenses. Ahsoka as able to land a devastating slash on Stendhal's face. Stendhal fell to his knees as he screamed in pain. His screams of pain echoed through the Imperial Outpost. Ahsoka then stood over Stendhal with her Lightsabers drawn at him. 

Ahsoka: It's over, Stendhal. You've lost. You've allowed the Dark Side to cloud your judgement and resolve. By accepting the Dark Side, you've only become the very thing you seek to destroy.

In that moment, Ahsoka's words left an unintended impact on Stendhal. He looked back on all the Jedi that had fallen to the Dark Side for petty and personal reasons. In that moment, Stendhal had an epiphany. 

Stendhal: I...I see. I understand now. 

Stendhal then Force Pushed Ahsoka away. Stendhal fought through the pain and clutched his Lightsabers tightly. He clutched then so tightly that he cracked the very Crystals in the blade, causing the blue and green blades to become unstable. Stendhal looked at Ahsoka with a mad look in his eyes.

Stendhal: I understand now. Yes..yes! It's all so clear now! My mask, like my ignorance has been stripped away! Now I know who my true enemies are! I'm so grateful...for this lesson from a fellow Jedi! Ahsoka Tano! Thank you for your wisdom! I know know the truth!

Stendhal then began to look back on the history of the Jedi itself. He soon looked at how the Sith came to be. He looked on those like Exar Kun, XoXaan, Ajunta Pall, Malak, Revan, even those like Dooku. They all were once Jedi until they abandoned the ways of the Jedi and became Sith. That epiphany changed Stendhal in a drastic way. 

Stendhal: The Galaxy has been warped! The false Jedi are the ones responsible! I...will make this right! I will wipe them all from the face of the Galaxy! 

Ahsoka prepared her Lightsabers for another round with Stendhal. Stendhal however made no attempt to attack her. Instead, Stendhal looked upon her with admiration. 

Stendhal: I will not kill a true Jedi! I will not deny the Galaxy of your existence! You do not deserve to be purged! The Force has decided your fate! You will be spared! Thank you, Ahsoka! Thank you for your invaluable wisdom! Now I know what I must do!

With that, Stendhal then began to make his escape from Telos IV. Stendhal managed to escape Ahsoka and departed from Telos IV. The wounded Stendhal then charted a course to the famed Valley of the Jedi on the Mid Rim world of Ruusan. There, Stendhal would make a drastic transformation that would change him forever. That fateful duel had burned a new path for Stendhal.
