After his fateful duel with Ahsoka, the wounded Stendhal made his way to the Valley of the Jedi on the planet Ruusan. The Valley of the Jedi was the site of a great battle between the Jedi and the Sith. Stendhal then made his way to the focus of a great Force Nexus. As Stendhal got on his knees, he reflected on Ahsoka's words.
Ahsoka: It's over, Stendhal. You've lost. You've allowed the Dark Side to cloud your judgement and resolve. By accepting the Dark Side, you've only become the very thing you seek to destroy.
Those words repeated again and again in Stendhal's head. He couldn't get them out of his head. His entire worldview was changed by those words.
Stendhal: As of now, I am lacking far too much. Weapons. Strategy. Power. Speed. But my greatest deficiency is.....
Stendhal then placed his two Lightsabers on the ground. He used the Force to disassemble them. He then placed the two cracked Kyber Crystals in his hand.
Stendhal: Yes....determination! I lacked the determination needed to carry out true justice! I was narrow minded! I was a fool!
Stendhal then began to pour his anger, hate and pain onto his Kyber Crystals using the Dark Side of the Force. This resulted in a wave of Dark Side Energy flowing through Stendhal. Flashes of the past began to flow in Stendhal's mind. He remembered his training in the Jedi Temple as well as the death of his Jedi Master during the Clone Wars. He remembers the battles he fought during the Clone Wars all the way to Order 66. He then remembered his fall to the Dark Side as well as his Dark Side training in the Trayus Academy by the spirit of XoXaan. But most of all, Stendhal relived his slaughter of Imperials in his quest for revenge as well as his fateful duel with Ahsoka. As all the memories began pouring in, Stendhal lets out a deafening Force Scream. The crystals then burst into torrents of fiery energy. As the process was done, Stendhal then reassembled his Lightsaber. As he does so, he activates them, revealing two unstable crimson blades. It was at this moment that Stendhal had changed.
Stendhal: Yes....yes! No mask for me...not anymore....
Stendhal then used one of his Lightsabers to slice off his broken nose. The pain was without words, yet Stendhal didn't scream. Stendhal then looked to the two giant statues of the Jedi. Stendhal begins to laugh.
Stendhal: My flashy mask has cracked. My false face has fallen away. Now I finally see the true nature of this Galaxy with my eyes uncovered and unclouded! The Jedi and the Sith were once one and the same. Light and dark. Good and evil. Order and chaos. All stem from the same thing.
Stendhal then reflected on the long and bloody history of the Jedi and Sith. Stendhal began to realize that the Jedi and Sith were more alike than anyone would've thought. But he made another conclusion from his fight with Ahsoka.
Stendhal: Two Jedi....one true to the Force and the others false and unworthy. They allow the Dark Side to grow. They allowed the Sith to win. Justice must be served! The False Jedi must be purged from the Galaxy! No truths, no falsehoods, no boundaries to cross. All that we know exists as a maelstrom of chaos!
Stendhal then holstered his Lightsabers and stood up as a changed man. In his mind, Stendhal now had a new mission. Stendhal had a new creed and purpose beyond his initial goal of revenge.
Stendhal: I am the faceless ideal. One who acts without really existing. I will dye this chaotic Galaxy red with the blood of the unworthy. The blood that flows from me is proof enough. It is the path I leave in my wake! A path to serve as a guide for others! These bloodstains will never fade!
In the heart of the Valley of the Jedi, Stendhal was reborn. His quest for revenge against the Sith had evolved. Now he sought to bring justice to the Galaxy through bloodshed. But this epiphany also transformed Stendhal.
Stendhal: Stendhal is no more. The narrow and dogmatic view of the Jedi has been purged. The selfish lust for revenge has been purged. Now I am but a stain that will cleanse the Galaxy and the Force itself. The False Jedi will be purged. The Sith shall be purged. Only when those sacrifices are made will the Force be restored to balance! I will make this right. Soon, a more just Galaxy will rise. All shall be made right. I will serve the Force itself.
In that moment, Stendhal, knight of the Jedi Order was no more. His fall to the Dark Side had left a profound impact on him. Despite his clear fall to the Dark Side, Stendhal renounced the Sith as well as the Jedi. No longer would he hunt down the Sith, he would also hunt down Jedi he deemed were unworthy. Stendhal now had a new identity as well as a name.
Stendhal: From this day forth, only Stain remains....to set things right. I will set things right.
On that day in the Valley of the Jedi, Stain was born. Stendhal was no more. With a new purpose, Stain would now begin his righteous crusade to purge all Sith and False Jedi from the Galaxy. Stain had found his true calling from the ashes of the Jedi and Sith.
