We ended up hiding in a bigger room filled with cranks behind glass walls. The adrenaline was dwindling now as I felt immense pain at my side.
"Thomas!!" I heard Teresa say worriedly. I saw that Thomas was also gracing a gunshot wound, but in his stomach. A spot more fatal.
Thomas began tumbling down. Teresa followed. I can only watch helplessly, my own injuries incapacitating me. I clutched the cure in my hands before crawling to Teresa and Thomas.
"Shit. Here, here. Apply pressure." She rummaged through a drawer and gave both of us pressure bags. I pressed mine tightly against the wound making myself wince.
"You guys gotta go." Thomas announced. But Teresa shook her head.
"No! No, not without you." She cried. I closed my eyes as the pain intensified. A hot feeling was starting to engulf my body in immense pain.
I planted the cure in Teresa's hands, knowing it wasn't safe with me as I was also succumbing to my injury. "Just in case, T." I told her. She hesitated before nodding.
"I admit, Teresa, you had me fooled." We held our breaths when we heard Janson's icy voice.
"I thought we were friends. Maybe it's just in your nature to betray the people closest to you." He continued. The three of us exchanged fearful glances. I quickly took a glass flask and threw it noisily in another direction. We scattered and took to hiding.
"Come on. Let's not prolong this. We both know there's no way outta here." Janson followed the noise only to see that we weren't there.
I peeked atop the table I was hiding behind and saw that his back was facing me. So i crawled quietly to the entrance. I hoped Teresa and Thomas were doing the same.
"Let's not make this any more painful than it needs to be."
Then I heard Teresa gasp.
"I think you have something of mine." I peeked again and saw that Janson found her and was now being cornered by him. Janson's eyes were on the cure. I looked around and Thomas' and my eyes meet. Teresa stretched her hand out holding the cure.
"Not that." Janson said. He wanted Thomas.
"Where is he?" Janson continued to taunt Teresa who was on the floor.
"Just take it. Leave him alone." She pleaded.
"What is it with you two? You think he's so special? He's a lab rat. He was born with a gift. He never had to fight for it, he never earned it. He doesn't deserve it." Janson argued. I look at Thomas and motion towards the glass holding back the cranks just behind Janson.
"Maybe. But it's his." Teresa bought us some more time. I saw Thomas looking around, perhaps for something to throw.
"What about you, Thomas? What do you have to say? Don't you have enough blood on your hands already?" We quickly ducked as Janson swept his eyes around the room.
"And you, Cara. You think you can save your poor boyfriend? He's likely turned into a monster by now." Janson's words made me flinch.
After he was only met with silence, he pointed his gun back at Teresa begrudgingly.
"Fine! Have it your way!" He shouted as he poised himself to shoot.
But just as he was about to, Thomas called out to him and flung some heavy metallic thing into the glass. To my horror, it didn't break.
"Missed, you little shit." Janson gritted his teeth before aiming towards Thomas
"Did I?" Thomas smirked as the sound of shattering glass resounded across the room.
A look of pure terror flashed against Janson's face before a tall Crank broke through the broken glass and tackled him from behind, biting him in the neck.
"Let's go!" Teresa helped Thomas up as I crawled and stumbled my way upright. We fled the scene.
"Take this, Care. Inject it into one of the major arteries." Teresa passed me back the cure which I held protectively against my bloody torso.
I willed my legs to run faster. My body can't give up on me now.
