While casually relaxing at the beach near the hero's house, he continued fishing for his dinner.
"I should probably think about a few other things I need to survive. I wonder how hard it would be to make proper bedding? Hmm?" He muttered to himself while he laid back on the beach.
Just as he was about to take a nap, he suddenly sensed an intense killing intent and stimulated from his many years of combat, he jolted awake and immediately scanned for the enemies whereabouts.
Elvin narrowly avoided getting hit by what looked like a small but powerful arc of pressurized water.
"Woah! Water magic? Isn't that one of the few magics where only certain races can use it?" He shouted as he looked around himself again.
This time, a large splash erupted from the ocean as a dazzling woman who's bottom half was only a fish tail jumped up before her tail leg became two human legs.
"Woahh!" The hero shouted as the woman quickly shot her killing intent towards him and launched another attack at him.
After calming down, he realized that the woman was descending very slowly in his eyes, after noticing this he casually stepped aside and watched as the woman crashed into the ground, the woman looked completely defenseless and injured, but she immediately got up and blasted another arc of waters towards Elvin, however the former hero casually stepped to the side and avoided the attack.
"What is your problem? Why are you attacking me so suddenly?" He asked, not able to contain his anger anymore.
"Shut up! It's you who've been taking my friends away and eating them all!" She shouted as she ran in to deliver a punch.
The girl expected the man in front of her to dodge, but instead her fist felt like it hit something hard.
"Eh, what happened?" She yelled as she quickly looked up to see that her fist had hit his muscular stomach.
"W-What!?" She shouted again, unable to process what was happening and then she fainted.
The former hero could only sigh.
"What a pain this woman is. Suddenly coming out of the ocean out of the blue and trying to kill me...but, now that I get a better look at her, she's unexpectedly super cute~ Whoever gets to be her partner should is lucky!" He muttered while reminiscing on his youthful school life.
"I never could work up the courage to ask any of the girls I had crushes on." He thought to himself while he waited for the unconscious woman to wake up.
After four hours, she finally began to stir.
"Mmm. Huh?" She moaned as she began to be aware of her surroundings.
As her eyes opened, a certain object came into view.
"Oh, you're up? About time." It was the face of the man she had tried to assassinate.
"Ah, that's right! How dare you! I'll avenge all my friends you selfishly killed!" She shouted but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't budge an inch.
"Wha- Hey, let me go so I can kill you, now!" She shouted.
"Rather than a fish, you're more like a rabid dog?" He said all of a sudden while imagining her with dog ears.
"How dare you! I'm not some lowly land creature! I'm from the majestic and elegant race of Merfolk!" She continued to spew insults while the former hero continued to ignore them.
"Hmm. Ok, I think I understand the situation." He thought to himself.
All of a sudden, he bowed he head in sincerity.
"I'm really sorry, and I won't ever do it again!" He shouted with utmost honesty.
"Eh, wait, what!? Why are you apologizing all of a sudden!?" She shouted, but this time in confusion.
"I know it won't make up for the friends you've lost, but I'm really sorry. I had no idea those fish were your friends! I don't speak the language of the sea, you see? So, I had no idea I was selfishly eating your friends! So, again, I'm really sorry!" He explained while keeping his sincere honesty.
"This, this is, a human apologizing? Isn't this too good to be true!?" She thought.
"Human's are scum that plague the Earth and dry it of it's resources, and selfishly do as they please with zero repercussion of the consequences, that's why the Demon Lord was able to be birthed in the first place!...Or at least that's what my parents used to say. But, this human, I can tell he's sincere, and he's really sorry about what he's done. I don't even need to use my magic to see it, but just in case..." She thought with doubt as she used her special magic.
[Heart Magic] - A magic that let's the user see into another's heart, completely exposing their true intentions.
[I really didn't know those delicious fish were this girls' friends, if I had known, I would've just went hunting around my new house. I can't exactly say 'I'm sorry' like this, can I?]
"You really feel guilty, don't you?" She said.
The former hero suddenly propped his head up.
"Did you just use Heart Magic!? Your the second person I've seen use this kind of magic!" He shouted in surprise and joy.
"Y-Yeah, what's with that reaction though?" The woman responded.
"Oh, hehehe, sorry, I just thought that if you could understand me with that magic, then this could resolved a lot quicker and more peacefully. Again, I'm truly sorry, but I promise I won't go fishing anymore around the beach, is that okay with you?" He answered.
"W-Well, even if you say that, you still ate my friends! B-But, I'm sure I can forgive you, as long as you don't do it anymore, understand?" She replied, trying her best to act tough, but failing miserably.
"Alright, alright. I'm sure you're a very busy merfolk, so I won't bother you anymore either." Elvin said as he untied the woman.
"I'm not really that busy." She said, finally looking at the man straight in the eye for the first time.
"How pretty." She muttered.
"'Scuse me?" Elvin asked.
"Ah, oh, nothing." The woman responded, flustered.
"Oh, ok, well it was interesting meeting you. See ya!" Elvin shouted as he began walking towards the forest.
"What a strange human." The woman muttered, before going back to the ocean, changing her form once again into a merfolks.
Later on.
"Ahh, peace and quiet, just like I like it." Elvin gave a refreshed sigh as he breathed in the fresh air.
"Wahh! Help me!" A familiar woman shouted as she got chased by a giant wolf.
Elvin raised his relaxed arms and suddenly fire shot forth from his hand.
The ball of fire shot straight towards the giant wolf, and it was cooked in an instant.
"Ah, thank you!" The woman thanked him sincerely.
"More importantly, why are you here!?" Elvin shouted, confused.
"Ah, well, you see, about that...I sort of...Ran away from home and don't have anywhere to go...So..." The woman said, as her voice continued to get quieter and quieter.
"Seriously!?" Elvin shouted.
And so, the hero got himself a new roommate.
