A warm breeze blew as I stood on my balcony. After another long day of pointless lessons, I was ready to sleep. Sadly, I couldn't since I still had dinner.
You may think that being the princess would mean you have pretty much everything in life. You're right, but you're wrong. Yes, I have people caring for me every day of life, and the most luxurious of items and that should mean I should be happy with this lifestyle. Well, I'm not.
I hate the dresses; I hate the perfection; I hate my lack of freedom, and I overall just hate my conservative life.
My moment of peace ended when I heard a small knock on the door. Sighing, I walked over to the and opened it to see my maid. "Good evening miss, it's time for dinner."
"I'll be right down." She curtsied then scurried away down the hall. I looked over to the opened door leading to the balcony wishing I didn't have to leave. I walked out the door, closing it behind me and slowly made my way to the Great Room where we eat dinner.
When I walk into the dining hall, the smell of the food hit me like a wave. I took a deep breath, taking in the delicious smell.
My mother and father were already there, so I took my seat next to my father. The servants then came and showed us what was for dinner. My mouth watered slightly when I saw it was my favorite meal, spaghetti. Yes, it was a very simple dish, but that was what I loved about it. I placed my napkin on my lap before picking up my fork and eating. The room had a comfortable silence as we ate.
That silence was soon broken with my father clearing his throat. "Seraphine, we need to discuss something with you."
His voice made me stop eating and looked up at him. My mother and father exchanged looks before he continued, "As we know, you just recently turned 18, meaning it is time for you to be getting married-"
I cut him off before he finished, "Father you don't really mean that do you? Marrige? Don't you think it's too soon? I haven't even met the guy so why should I even get married right now??"
My father sighed. "There is a prince in the kingdom next to us and I know he would make you very happy. Plus, marrying him will form a between us and them. It will help our kingdom as well."
"So your selling me off to some prince for your own selfish reasons?"
"It's not like that and you know it."
"Really? It sure does seem like that. I don't even get a say in this."
"Honey," my mother chimed in, "your father only wants whats best for you. If you could at least give him a chance maybe you'll-"
"Maybe I'll what? Love him? Not a chance. I'm not marrying some snobby prince just to please you. You can't just marry me off to someone."
"I can actually." My father replied. "I may be your father but I'm also your king, so you will do as I say. You will be leaving tomorrow so make sure you get plenty of rest tonight."
Not wanting to listen any more I stood up. "Dinner was delicious, but if you will excuse me." With that I walked out of the dining room ignoring my father call my name. I went straight to my room and layed in my bed, letting the tears fall when I was finally alone.
I can't believe he's making me making me get married. I mean sure its my duty as a princess to do whatever it takes to take care of my kingdom. But marrying a stranger? Thats just insane.
I paced back and forth in my room thinking about all the things that could happen and what the prince could be like. He's probably stuck up and selfish. He won't actually love me, just use me for pleasure. Distgusting.
My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. I knew it was my maid coming to prepare me for bed, but I honestly didn't feel like interacting with someone right now.
I cracked open the door just enough so she could hear me clearly. "I'm going to take care of things myself tonight. You can go to bed early tonight, I know you've been working all day so you must be tired."
"But miss, I insist on preparing you for bed myself."
"No no I'll do it myself tonight. Have a good night." I closed the door before she could say anything else.
When I knew she was gone, I slowly changed out of my dress, and into my night gown. I crawled into bed, and buried myself into the covers. More tears started to fall. For the rest of the night I cried until sleep finally took me.
