I left that place as fast as I could going straight to my room. I don't care if I made a scene by leaving I just couldn't stay there any longer. This must've been what my father and the king were talking about earlier. But why would the king or my father do something like this? Those people just wanted to be happy with the ones they loved.
Tears started streaming down my face at the realization. If me and Octavia were together like that, would the king kill us as well? With the way he looked at us there is no doubt in my mind that he won't hesitate to get rid of the "filth."
When I made it to my room, I slammed the door shut behind me. This is so infuriating. As soon as I get close to being happy it all goes down the drain.
A quiet knock sounded at my door interrupting my angry thoughts, and a few silent moments later Oliver walked in. "Hey Seraphine.. are you ok?"
Is he seriously asking that right now? Do I look ok to him? After what I just witnessed I'm supposed to be ok?
"Do I look ok to you?"
"No.. I suppose not. I'm sorry that you had to see that. I didn't even know my father was planning this. I understand how you're feeling though and I would like to help you feel better somehow."
Something in me snapped. "How could you even begin to understand? Your mother may have raised you to be a gentleman but I know your father raised you to be extremely conservative so you probably hate people with that lifestyle just like those people."
He said nothing. His face still help its sympathetic look, but his eyes were searching mine. "I actually do have some understanding," he started saying slowly, watching me cautiously as he spoke, "because well, like those people who were punished for their so-called crimes-"
"See this is exactly what I'm talking about it isn't a crime to-"
"Seraphine please let me finish." I bit the inside of my cheek to prevent me from continuing. "As I was saying, like those people who were punished, I am just like them. Well obviously you already know that.." he replied quietly while rubbing the neck of his neck.
That's right. I can't believe I forgot about that. Oliver is no different than I am and I lashed out at him. "I'm sorry Oliver.. it's just.. after what just happened I got overwhelmed and then there was the way you were acting and I just didn't know what to think."
"It's ok, it makes sense for you to be overwhelmed. Especially since you're in love with my sister."
I stared at him in disbelief. "How did you know?"
He chuckled slightly at my shock. "I'm no fool Seraphine. It is quite obvious that there is something going on between the two of you."
I sat down on my bed, and rested my head on my hands. "So you knew.. does that mean you don't want to marry me?"
I felt my bed shift from him sitting down next to me. "Don't get me wrong Seraphine, you're a lovely girl but obviously you aren't my type."
I couldn't help but laugh at his statement. "Obviously. But if you didn't want to marry me, then why are we doing all this?"
He sighed and rubbed his face. "My father. Just like yours he is making me do this for the kingdom. He thinks that a strong king needs a queen by his side. Although it makes no sense because my mother has no say in what happens in the kingdom."
"I see."
Minutes pass by as we sat there in silence. We both have a lot to think about. Neither of us want this wedding, and we both have someone else we love that we can't be with.
"I have a plan!" Oliver said a bit loudly, making me jump a little from the sudden outburst.
"There was no need to say that so loudly, I'm right next to you. But what's the plan?"
"Well, right now I'm very sure my father is on to both of us. So for starters to be extra cautious, we need to avoid our secret lovers until after the wedding."
"What? But that's two weeks away. I don't know if I can stay away from Octavia that long."
"I feel your struggle. But if we want to keep both Octavia and Andrew safe we have to do this. I'm sure they'll understand once we tell them this plan after the wedding."
"Ok.. if you say so Oliver. What exactly is the plan after the wedding? I don't see how is avoiding them then telling them will help us be together in the end."
"Well I'm case you didn't know, our wedding will also be our coronation day to being king and queen."
"Yes I know that, but what does that have to do with our situation?"
"Think about it Seraphine."
What is he talking about? We'd be married and king and queen. I still don't see-
"Really Seraphine? Once we are the rulers, no one can really command us to do anything can they." I shook my head in reply. "Meaning no one can make us not have secret lovers, and no more innocent people have to die for being with whoever they want."
"Oliver you're a genius!"
"I know I know a very handsome night I add." I hit his arm playfully at his response making him laugh and move away from slightly so I couldn't do it again.
"Alright," Oliver started, "now that we have a plan let's put it to action."
