I try not to shake, but it does me no good. Any girl would do the same on their wedding day. It's a big day, the dress is heavy, and the eyes watching are uncountable. As brave as I ought to be, I still tremble.Once the doors open, I will see Octavia waiting for me, so while all the last-second details are settling around me, I hold on to that thought and try to relax a little.
"Oh! This is our cue," my mother says, noting the change of music.
My father came to my side, offering me his arm. "Are you ready dear?" I nodded in response as I linked my arm with his.
"My goodness Seraphine, you're shaking." My mother stated.
"I know. I can't help it."
"Well, don't you worry, dear. Everything will be perfect."
I took a deep breath, thinking about the events of that will happen. The coronation is part of the wedding. First the vows to Octavia, then the vows to the people. Rings, then crowns. Sounds easy enough.
I listened, waiting. I know that it is almost my turn to walk down the aisle, so I took one last chance to straighten my dress.
It is truly magnificent. My other one got ruined during the rebel attack, but Rosie was already prepared and had a dress made up for me in a flash. The white gown was fitted through my hips, flirting out in waves to the floor. The sleeves were off the should like my old one. Over the dress a sleeveless cape-like coat flows behind me, making a train.
I'll have to be sure to take it off for the reception. I intend to dance with my wife until I can no longer stand.
"Are you ready?" My father asked.
"Ready as I'll ever be," I replied.
When the doors opened I saw Octavia standing at the end of the isle wearing the most beautiful wedding dress. Oliver was standing up front with her, and his husband, Andrew, was standing off to the side with the other guards.
Yes husband. They got married last week. Oliver became the king and Andrew became the head of the royal guard, not wanting to be a ruler.
Before either of the weddings, Oliver and Octavia made a deal that they would share the responsibility of the crown saying that the were both fit to rule.
As I continued my walk down the aisle, my parents on either side of me, I looked to the side to see my family smiling at me. At least most of them were. Some looked disappointed that I was marrying a woman. I know that it will take time for people to fully accept this, but soon this kingdom will be a happy place.
This was a clear sign to the public with the twins reign, and I was happy to see how many people already welcomed the change.
Fear began to resettle when I noticed all of the eyes on me. Hundreds of people lined the aisle that led me to Octavia. They all rises when they saw me enter.
I smile, trying to stay calm, graciously nodding at the guests as I passed. I looked back forward, searching for her face. I just need to see her, if I can see her I know that I'll be fine.
When I locked eyes with her my smile grew. She looks so beautiful. I'm so distracted by her face that I didn't notice that we were already at the end of the aisle. My father steps back, and I step forward, arriving at the one place I've been waiting to be.
Octavia and I move closer to each as the ceremony starts.
"Hello, sweetheart," she whispers.
"Don't start," I warned in return, smiles being left on both of our faces.
She holds my hands as if they're the only thing keeping me with her, and I focus on that as I prepare myself for the words I must say, for the promises I'll never break. It's magical really: the power this day has.
But now, after everything that has happened, I know that this isn't a fairy tale. I know that we will have hard times and confusing times. I know that things won't always happen the way we want them to. It won't be perfect, not all the time.
This isn't a happily ever after.
This is so much more than that.
