Trigger Warning: some minor homophobic themes plus a slur

I kissed her. This kiss was full of anger and sadness. And then, at the last possible moment, everything was ruined.

Oliver stepped around the corner, his father right by his side. His eyes locked on to me, body pressed against Octavia. I backed away, but not quickly enough. Octavia turned to face her brother, prepared to give an excuse but still too stunned to speak.

I looked towards Oliver, seeking some type of help, but all I had met with was a shocked and disappointed expression.

"I ran into my son in the hall and decided that since your wedding is coming up that I should speak to the both of you about ruling the kingdom the right way, but it seems we have other things to discuss." Disgust was all I could see in his expression.

"Octavia," the king continued, fury evident in his voice, "Get out of my sight before I send you to your grave."

Octavia's breath caught. "Father, I-"

"GO!"

Octavia looked at me once, then turned and walked away. I stood there, silent and stillo, afraid too look up and meet the king's angry gaze. When I finally did, I saw the king was marching towards me.

When he reached me, he grabbed my arm roughly and started dragging me away. I looked towards Oliver once more only to see him looking at the ground, not wanting to meet my gaze.

The king continued to drag me until we got to the throne room and he finally released me. I rubbed my sore arm as he stompped over to his chair. An eerie silence filled the room as he stared at me. Not able to handle his stare anymore, I stared at the floor, waiting for him to start yelling.

"How long?" he asked quietly, trying to stay in control.

"I don't kno--" I started.

The king erupted. "This is not the time to be acting clueless! How long has this been going on?!"

I trembled from where I stood. "Since the ball."

His eyes widened. "So basically since you got here," he said, something like sarcasm in his voice. "I can't believe this. I can't believe my son is marrying a faggot. He deserves better than this."

I flinched at that word. How could he say something like that?

I heard him sigh heavily. "Well I can't let this get out. My son needs a queen by his side and saddly you're the only one who can fit that." There were a couple of moments of silence. He was probably thinking of what he should do with me.

I heard him get up and walked over to me. His rough hand grabbed onto my chin and forced me to look into his eyes. "Here's what we will do," he started, "You will stay quiet about this, you will marry my son in two days, and you will stay away from Octavia. If I find out that you two have been together I will have her caned and you will watch until that disgrace is dead, and you will die right after her. If you follow those rules I'll forget about this incident, and Octavia will be safe. Do we have a deal?"

I thought about his words carefully. If I agree to this, I'll never be able to speak to Octavia again. I don't think Oliver's plan would work against this, it'd be too risky to even try. But if agreeing to this ensures her safety, then it will be worth it.

"Do you promise nothing will happen to her?"

A menecing grin formed on his face. "You have my word. So is it a deal?"

I nodded my head. "Good," he let go of my face, "now get out my sight you disgusting excuse for a human."

I turned and quickly walked out of the throne room, feeling his stare burning into my back the whole way out. When I walked out the door, I left the future that I held in my hands for me and Octavia in there.

Once I was out of sight in my room, I let the tears fall, hoping to get the ache out of my body before someone sees me. I went to my bed as I held my stomach as if the more of my body was about to crack from the pain, rolling onto my side, no longer able to stand.

I continued to cry until the exhaustion of doing so became too much and I fell asleep.
