why isn't anyone going over the wall? they had to hear the withdraw signal. Elisa thought as Mikasa and her were looking out over Cadets communicating, until they saw the HQ building filled with Titans. they made it back to where they can see their fellow Cadets shortly after.
"Mikasa! Elisa! weren't you two with the rearguard?" one of the cadets asked. "Annie!" Mikasa called out to her. she went to Annie hoping for something. "i know how bad things have gotten. it's selfish. putting personal matters in the forefront. but have you seen Eren's squad?" Mikasa asked with her voice filled with concern.
"some squads made it back. but i don't know about Eren's." Annie answered truthfully.
"we found Armin. he's over there." Reiner followed on, pointing towards his direction.
luckily, Elisa was already with Armin trying to calm him down. "Armin!" Mikasa called out. she runs to where the both of them were. Elisa raises her hand to let her know she has to walk slower, not breaking contact with Armin.
"take it easy. he's not looking too good. he's in a state of shock right now." Elisa said. she sits to his right, and Mikasa kneels down to his level.
"Armin.. are you okay? you're not hurt, are you?" she said this in a soft voice. Elisa rarely gets to hear that from her. like i said, she usually has a nonchalant tone, so Elisa finds it completely new every time she hears Mikasa's soft voice.
"mind telling me what happened with your squad? what happened to Eren?" Elisa asked. she sincerely hoped that he wasn't dead. for the love of God, please don't be dead, Eren...
Mikasa stands up. "yeah.. where is Eren?" Mikasa asked. Elisa looks at his facial expression. he looked like he was trying to hold back tears. "Armin?" Elisa asked, concerned. he then looked up with tears in his eyes.
something bad happened, i know it... Elisa thought. "... they were... the cadets of Squad 34... Thomas Wagner... Nack Tierce... Milieus Zeremski... Mina Carolina... Eren Jaeger!" Elisa fell silent after that statement.
he's dead... Elisa's breath started trembling. Mikasa was speechless. Elisa felt her stomach and heart drop. she then covered her mouth.
she tries not to laugh hysterically at the fact that her best friend of eight years has died. the first person she could call a true friend. the first person she loved deeply. this was happening while Armin was talking. "these brave five upheld their duties...! they died valiantly on the field of battle...!"
tears start coming down as her voice settles down, but she had her mouth still covered. "please no..." Sasha said, clearly saddened. Armin was weeping, while Elisa was trying to control herself.
"his whole squad was wiped out?" "the same will happen to us if we try to take on those Titans..." a few of the cadets were discussing.
"i'm so sorry, Mikasa... i'm so, so sorry, Elisa... it should've been me that died, not Eren! i... i couldn't do a thing! i'm worthless..." Armin was saddened by the situation.
