What does he mean by that? I stand there dumbfounded clutching the sticky note in my hand quite tightly until my knuckles go white. I should have been expecting this fully. My legs start to shake and I hyperventilate. This is a habit of mine so yeah bear with me because I'm sort of irksome with this as well. I never expected to have a breakup after like 1 week of dating. Am I really that horrible? Thinking about this logically, he dumped my sister as well and usually it's her doing the guy part. I have no idea what this means of that he would dump me from a damn sticky note so I try not to let it come to me. "Case? Are you alright?" Mom says from the frame of my door. She has a bit of brownie mix on her red sweater from the previous Christmas which can't be good since she's cooking. My head spins so hard that I crack it. Mom is smart so she knows if I'm in a bad mood or not just by the look on my face. "Yeah I'm alright thanks for asking." I fake a smile trying so hard not to give my depression away. Yet, I fail again. She cocks an eyebrow and steps in my feathery messy room. "What's up girlfriend?" She sits on the edge patting the other side to give me emphasis to sit beside her as well totally ignoring my face filled with suspicion that she just called me "girlfriend". It doesn't take me long to show her the note saying that Pete was dating me, then dumping me for God knows what reason. "Whoa whoa whoa..." She drawls looking up at me, "you were dating him?" I spill out the entire information I had in my stomach and hell it felt good. From the beginning of the dodgeball to the resolution of him talking to Melissa. "Honey I'm sure it was a terrible mistake. Plus dumping you on a sticky note?" I think this over biting my bottom lip. She's right. He's not right for me and also I have high school to finish; he wasn't even my type in the beginning. "Mom he dumped my sister too!" I complain in a mature looking way and I'm so glad she understands. "Baby, I know how hard it is. I dated a few bitchy guys before I met your biological father." She shakes her head trying to shake off the memories. Suddenly guilt fills me hard and I break into waterworks. I didn't even do anything wrong to make him despise me! Fuck he didn't even ask me on a date yet, from where I recall. Mom brings her arm around me and rubs my shoulder sympathetically. Kissing my forehead as well, she cooed in a faint whisper to my ear saying things that'll make me feel less depressed. Honestly I want to cup his face in my hands and shove him through a brick wall. Asshole for letting him kiss me and falling for him. From quiet sobbing, it became worse to screaming and saying unpleasantness under my breath. Mom became startled but she never let me go. Finally, I hold myself together and wipe away the fucking tears that stream down my face. "Mom I'm okay." I say in monotone because I want to curl up in a ball and eat ice cream like all stereotypes do on their breakups. Not taking my attitude personally, "Alright honey. You know you have Alexa, me and Caley." She pats me once looking at me with her watery eyes for a moment before fixing her back and walking out without another word. Hearing the click of the door, I burst into tears right after.

Waking up startled to see Caley sitting right in front of me with a winning smile. I grin questioning her by the look on my face; the-what-are-you-doing-here look. "Today's Dad's Halloween party!" She squeals which I have never seen her do because usually I squeal when I fangirl. This is really important to us and we value it so much because we are considered the cool kids in his neighbourhood. I remember of what I read last day and I try my best to fake a cough. I couldn't call him or else that would make the whole situation worse. "I can't go Caley I think I'm coming down with something." I cough again clutching my stomach breathing fast giving her the idea. I'm still in my yesterday's apparel and I'm so uncomfortable so that's making this plan even more suitable. Expecting her to be comforting me and yet trying to understand that I'm badly "ill" I'm mistaken because she burst into a fit of guffaws. I yet again, for the hundredth time, failed at my brilliant acting skills. "What?" I act confused. Not containing her laughter, "O-M-G Case you're hysterical." She puts reference on hysterical thinking I'm actually funny for once. Hey I was voted as class clown in 8th grade. Finally after the sound of her dying platypus voice calms down, she looks at me quite seriously with me shifting making me scared of why she's doing that. "What's wrong Casey?" Damn she's better of an actress than I am. "Pete dumped me." I say nonchalantly lifting my shoulders trying hard to ignore what that note said. I heard a series of gasps coming from her mouth and little apologies trying to comfort me but nobody would. "I don't even know what I did wrong Cales!" I'm exasperated and ignorant trying to "read between the lines" of what I did to make him pissed. She gets a hold of my hand and kisses it. Weird but that's just how my family roles so deal with it. "I'm sorry but I was really looking forward to that party. If you don't want to go it's okay." She smiles with a hint of hope in her green eyes. Her skin has absolutely no pimples and then there's me- the one with ugly flaws. "No you know what? I don't care if he's there." I stand up with courage and she stands with me. Sisters by chance, friends by choice right? This feels like a fricken movie but I glance at the clock which read 4:00 p.m. How long have I've been passed out? Well the party is at 6:00 so better start getting ready. I take Caley by the hand and hop down the stairs in the car. She looks at me curiously but agrees not making a fuss out of this situation because I think she's already got the idea of where we're going. I hit the gas and rush to the closest Halloween store which was about 3 min away to be exact. Caley picked out a pretty Marilyn Monroe costume with a fake blond wig. She seemed happy with her purchase as did I, so I smile at her too. We drive in silence all the way home until we stop at the driveway. "Hey, thanks for doing this. Pulling courage from thin air and walking straight into Dad's house to see him standing. I'm proud of you, you know." She wells up with tears and I try not to so I clear my throat and thank her, and I meant it. After making it to my room, the very first thing I do is grab the vacuum from the storage beside my room. The white feathers just remind me of Pete so I quickly suck it up. Finally I move to the costume bag sitting on top of my bookshelf. The beautiful white wings really brought the difference through all the costumes at the store. A golden rim is wrapped above the top of my head with a pretty white spaghetti strapped dress flowing down comfortably below my knees. I thought that going to a fucking scary Halloween party with girls peeing their pants, I decided to go with the theme by adding a fake knife with "blood" spilling out of my stomach and a fake baby leg poking out. It looked so gruesome of when I saw it but that was my goal. A pregnant angel who was apparently stabbed. Perfect. For my makeup I decided to go light with just concealer and shimmery white eyeshadow in the corner of my eyes which brought out the colour of them. "Perfect." I murmur as I head over to Caley's room. She looked pretty, no she looked gorgeous. Her short wig was curled in spirals which bounced off her shoulders. The white dress was nice and light, same as mine with her round glasses perched on the bridge of her nose. "Damn girl." She winks in my direction while I step into her closet for a pair of flats. I can never go to a party with heels because they hurt and plus it wasn't me. "Says you man. You look awesome!" She smiles twirling around in circles with her dress doing the same. On her feet, of course she's wearing high white heels which match her dress. She's seriously acting like a little kid princess twirling around, for a girl who just got out of the hospital for smoking weed. It makes me smile for her doing this. Kissing her One Direction bobble heads goodbye we both make it downstairs to see mom standing with her arms crossed looking amused shaking her head. "Wow girls looking hot!" Oh no. She brings out the camera and forces us to make "scary" poses for the camera. Well, it was funny all the same. Making fun of Caley doing the cross eyed look with her hands out like Frankenstein I give I kiss faced look with my hand in front. My eyes blurred from the flash I text Alexa that she should be here now. My phone buzzed with Pete's number popping up.
Can you meet me behind Alexa's house?
I ignore the message because he should've thought first. I'm not making him ruin my night so I laugh at a totally random joke my sister said which honestly I didn't really pay any attention to. Alexa shows up with her fairy done makeup and beautiful curled hair and walks in confidently with a huge smile stuck on her face. "Shall we go pregnant angel and Ms. Monroe?" She gives us each an individual hug before heading out the door. Before I walk out I hug mom tightly and she whispers, "Everything will go smoothly honey." With one last glance I head out the door with my best friend and twin. "All right lets go."
