TO NOT HOLD YOUR FACE
OR FEEL YOUR EMBRACE,
IS WHY I WASTE

Although the days were beginning to feel longer with each second wasted, the knowledge of knowing she could have easily been biding her time with Finn dragging things on so slowly, she managed to not toss herself back into those usual bad habits.

Well, mostly.

There was still the occasional sniff of cocaine that flew straight to her head in order to come across much more lively than she would normally be. It was the price she was paying for keeping herself away from the easiest source of happiness, and throwing herself into the dreadful people she still welcomed.

Maybe dreadful was too strong of a word. But it felt perfectly fitting for Maddie. Luckily for her, most of her time was being spent along with Sophia, who had always been much easier to be with. Even if she gave in to gossip too often, something Millie would have preferred to stay away from.

Millie tilted her face up, sniffing harshly before facing herself in the bathroom mirror. She tilted her head, rubbing her nose in the space above her Cupid's bow to wipe away the slight remnants that remained.

Her eyes bore into her reflection, twisting and turning to view herself in every direction. She didn't want to get stuck in that endless degrading loop of how plainly she looked, so she swung the door open, leaving the mess of thoughts behind in the bathroom.

With a small purse resting along her hip, the thin chain link strap wrapped over her shoulder, she stepped down along the staircase. A quick flicker of her eyes found that Olivia was sitting comfortably atop the large sofa, phone in one hand, a paperback set beside her.

"Hey," she greeted when Millie drew nearer to the first floor. "Where you going?"

Millie's hand gripped the railway beside her as she went on. "I'm going out with Sophia."

"Do you always spend this much time with her?" Olivia asked lightheartedly.

But Millie didn't find the moment so amusing. In fact, she hated it. Any small moment with Olivia always went the same. Questions and more questions and comments that unsettled Millie.

So she liked to keep her answers short.

"No," she replied, digging her hand around in the small purse for the sunglasses she brought.

"And you haven't been spending much time with Maddie." She frowned. "Aren't you worried she'll ditch you because of that?"
