CHAPTER NINETEEN.
—
❝ YOU'RE TIRED OF MOVING,
YOUR BODY'S ACHING ❞In the midst of Caleb babbling about how he was absolutely certain of whatever chances he had in getting the opportunity to ask out Sadie, Finn couldn't ground himself down in the present moment.
Now usually, he would consider himself a pretty good listener. It could've been hours of Caleb rambling on about anything he didn't have much of an interest in, and by the end of it all, he would've remembered all the highlights of the conversation.
They always had their differences, but Caleb was one of the few people Finn could easily get along with. So whether it was some sport or athletes he was talking about, or some song Finn was obsessing over, they managed to share enough interest that kept their friendship going all these years.
But right now, every single word Caleb spoke was fading before it could even reach Finn's ears.
His mind was slipping off somewhere else. Because even though she was a thousand miles away, there was no way to get her out of his head. All he could think of in the moment, what was Millie doing?
It had only been a few days since she had left. But even then, he felt like it had been so much longer. Not to mention, just knowing that she was far out of reach only put her further into his head.
So he had sent her a few texts. Nothing mushy or whatever, just casual. He was trying to see what was up, how she was.
To his surprise, she hadn't replied to anything he had said.
Honestly, he thought that receiving no response would've kept her out of his head. Out of sight, out of mind. At least, that's how it usually worked.
It's just the way a lot of things went for him. Not seeing Caleb or Lilia for long enough, pretty soon he would forget to check in with either of them. This was something that helped him deal with everything at home.
And for some reason, this wasn't working with Millie.
Finn stared at his phone, the three unread messages glaring at him through the screen. He didn't want to seem clingy or some other dumb shit, so he left it at three by the second day.
