He had no idea how the fuck he was supposed to control wings.

Fortunately, Midoriya's wings came out in all their fiery, emerald glory in time to catch him.

Unfortunately , he only managed a weak, powerless flap that delayed his fall enough that he wouldn't go splat... but not enough that he hit the ground smack on his face.

" Ow..." he murmured, rubbing his throbbing wrist. He should have known better than to try and use two limbs that he hadn't moved before in his life. Oh well. Trial and error, right?

But now he had a wrist that was probably sprained. That's just perfect.

Midoriya then made the wise decision of fishing his phone out of his pocket, sitting on a random fridge and starting watching bird videos, along with videos meant for helping parents teach children with wing quirks how to fly for the first time. He would have preferred more action, but... if it would help in the long run, he would gladly do it.

He took many notes in the back of his notebook, and figured out that his wings were a power-soaring type (according to a man who had a wing quirk); with a wing shape more broad and rounded, this meant they were powerful, good in active flight and usually used for soaring. Alongside this information, he learned how to turn, hover, gain altitude and/or speed, and, of course, lift off the ground.

Needless to say, he was confident he should be able to fly basically by the end of the three hours he had given himself. He'd probably have some time left over, too.

Try 1:

Midoriya took a deep breath from atop a medium high fridge. The fall wouldn't kill him, but it would probably sprain or break something again. He stepped back to give himself space to lift off and... Fell off the back of the fridge. At least he somehow caught himself on a piece of random metal.

Fail.

Try 4:

The greenete steeled himself and crouched, slanting the tips of his wings slightly. With a swift beat, he was up in the sky. His face lighting up, he whooped in joy, before realising he was rocketing closer to the floor--

"... Ow..."

Fail.

Try 42:

Bruised all over and throbbing in countless places, the freckled boy clenched his teeth. How long had he been there? With a quick swipe of his phone, he realised it had been an hour and half since attempting to fly. Cut him some slack, though; he had never tried to use wings before, never had studied how to fly since he never thought he'd have wings and he had no-one to teach him how to fly apart from a NicoNico (Japanese You-tube, idfk) guy in his forties.

He sighed and climbed onto a high pile. Just one more attempt and he'd go home for the day.

He narrowed his eyes, tensed his muscles and crouched, before leaping off and becoming airborne again. He shut his eyes. Oh, he was so gonna die from this height--

He inhaled and remembered - his wings were made for soaring, mostly, so...

He shakily yet quickly extended his wings and immediately caught air. Grunting at the sudden delay in his fall, he forced an eye open.
