39: Hitoshi Shinso versus Denki Kaminari

Kouda panted, he hadn't realised he had been so tired. He met eyes with his friends up in his class' stall.

He beamed.

Chapter 39: Hitoshi Shinso versus Denki Kaminari

" Alright, you may be at... a small, extreme-ily, weenily, tiny disadvantage, but there's still a chance!"

Shinso scoffed. " Yeah, I know, I'm still gonna try, but the thing is - Kaminari has an electric quirk. Me? I only have a mind control one, and that only works if he replies to me."

Midoriya threw up his hands. " Well, lucky for you, he talks loads and has no idea how your quirk works!"

" ... Okay," Shinso said slowly. " But-"

" No buts!" Midoriya slammed his hands on the table like he was interrogating him. Which, with the bright light overhead in the waiting room and the metal table they were sitting at, seemed pretty convincing. " Are you gonna win?! Yes you are! Say it!"

Shinso blinked tiredly. It may be past midday, but it was too early for any of this shit. He just wanted to sleep. " I don't need encouragement, I already know that I'm gonna win. Thing is, that's not gonna happen if I don't have a plan."

Midoriya sighed and flopped into his chair, all previous aggression gone. He hummed, putting a hand on his chin in thought. " Huh. Good point."

" I mean, I... s-sort of just... just improvised," Kouda said. " Maybe you don't really need a p-plan. But y-you might want one as backup m-maybe..."

Midoriya grinned. " I think you're onto something, Ko!"

A moment of silence.

" ... O-Onto what?"

He shrugged. " No idea, I thought maybe by saying it, it would help."

" Ah. Okay... W-Well, I don't think it did..."

" Yeah, I got nothing either."

Shinso snorted, " Yeah no, we're the worst at planning these things."

" I mean, usually, I'm great at this, but... I'm way too nervous to think something up, honestly," Midoriya said. " So yeah, right now, we're the worst at planning these things."

" You're nervous? Who's the one about to get electrocuted?" Shinso said.

" True, true," Midoriya replied, an amused tilt in his lips. " Okay. Let's think about this properly."

Kouda said after a second, " I-I don't think there's much to think about. Really, if Shinso asks him a question in the first minutes, well, Kaminari won't know what's h-happening. I don't think you'd need backup..."

Shinso and Midoriya blinked. " That... Is very true. Ko, you're a genius."

And so that's how Shinso now finds himself here, standing in front of Denki Kaminari with full intentions to just ask him a question.

He sighed and Present Mic continued his commentary. " He looks tired and those bags seem dark, but will he have enough hidden energy for today's first battle of the finals?! It's Hitoshi Shinso from the General Studies course!"
