"Hey, Yami look at this!" Kyndall called out as she started to climb a rock that stood at the edge of a cliff.

They were out exploring a little mountain that was near Kyndalls' residence. She had to take a temporary leave from the magic knights due to a chronic illness that had affected her ability to properly function.

It came out of nowhere and for the energetic, loud, outgoing Kyndall it left her in pieces. She wasn't allowed to go out and do crazy things like jump off a cliff, go hiking, mountain climbing, protect the citizens of Clover Kingdom, or use large amounts of magic.

"Hey," Yami chided at her, "you know you aren't supposed to be doing things like that. Get down," he scolded her with a frown.

Kyndall looked down at him from the rock and huffed. Giving in she slowly climbed back down. As much as she hated it, he was correct.

"You're no fun, Yami," Kyndall whined as she walked over to him with a sad pout, "I haven't been out in a while, I deserve to do some sort of activity."

Yami only shook his head at her whining, "Yeah, I know you're just itching to go run 20 miles or something, but you know you can't." he reminded her.

Kyndall gave him a sad look before nodding. His heart broke, she wanted to make her happy but knowing her conditions there wasn't much he could do besides hug and cuddle her.

Yami sighed softly and patted her brown hair, the color had gotten dull over time. He was worried for her, everyday it seemed like her disease got worse. The doctors told him that it would be a hard battle to win and that only fate could predict the outcome.

What a stupid thing to say.

Fate this, fate that. Why was it that everything laid in the hands of fate. Why did he just have to sit there and wait for fate?

What would happen if fate decided to be a little shit and do some shitty stuff with his life?

Did he just have to sit there and accept it?

Like hell.

Sitting next to Kyndalls bed Yami stuffed his hands into his pockets, fiddling with the fabric inside of them. The curtains were open, letting out a warm Spring light into the dull room. Yami looked down at her hands, they had gotten paler.

"Yami," Yami heard the gentle, affectionate voice of Kyndall.

He refused to look up at her. If he did, he was sure to break down. Break down into a puddle of tears, pleads, break down into a mess that he didn't want to show her. For her sake and for his.

If she saw how sad he was then she would be sad. He didn't want that for her, he didn't want to see her more sad than what she already was.

"Yes?" Yami replied

"How's the Magic Knights? Did you get a new mission today?" Kyndall asked optimistically, she sounded excited and proud.

He didn't know why. Why was she so happy?

"No... I turned it down," Yami answered her. His eyes scrunched up, a solemn look glazed over his face as he remembered the reason as to why he turned down the mission.

To spend the final month with her.

"Huh!?" Kyndall exclaimed with surprise, "Awhh, I really wanted to hear some stories from you." She whined.

He could hear the smile that rested on her face, his eyebrows furrowed as he tried to make sense of why she was happy.

"Well, at least I get to spend time with you. Fate's been pretty nice so far."
