I slowly start the trek back to my room. I have school tomorrow, so I hop in the shower. Afterwords, I dry off, and put my pajamas on. It has been quite some time since my mother was home but I've been managing since she has been gone.
I fall asleep almost instantly and have a considerable doze. I wake up and get ready for school as I always do and hop out the door at 7:08 like normal.
I see Kylie, Melinda, and Connor by the bus stop. I run up to them and I shout a greeting, waving my arms in the air. Melinda beckons me to join them, and I run faster until I reach them, my shoes skidding on the sidewalk.
"Morning, Ally!" Melinda says.
"Good morning, Melinda!" I replied, making an effort to sound cheerful. I look at Connor with a questioning gaze, and a simple question: You didn't tell anyone, did you? Hoping he would get the message. Connor then narrowed his eyes and it seemed like he replied by saying, Of course not. Why would I?
I remove my gaze from Connor's eyes and I look at Kylie to try and not stir the pot. "Hey Kylie!" I say cheerfully and somewhat relieved. She looks briefly suspicious, but removes it when she sees my smile. I hear a small sigh of relief. Kylie smiles at me.
"Whats up?" she asks.
The bus arrives at exactly 7:10 and we board it. Since it is limited to two people per seat, Kylie and Melinda took the first row while me and Connor took the row behind them.
"When do you think we'll have to go?" Connor asks, clearly anxious to get started.
"I don't know when, and I don't know how. Maybe when I have another vision." I reply nervously. Kylie and Melinda are whispering to each other. Connor pauses.
"If." He whispers.
We ride in silence the rest of the way to school where we get out and walk in the school building. We look at each other and we have the same expression. Kylie looks at us suspiciously and glances back at Melinda. We walk to our homerooms silently.
I remember when me, Melinda, and Kylie would laugh, and gossip all while trying not to drop our books when getting to class. We would always put a book on top of our heads, and pretend to be princesses. Those days are a thing of the past, now. I blink back tears as I get to Mrs. DeFelice's class. Did I mention I'm a fragile flower?
"Ah Ally, it's a good thing you're here." she says sitting at her desk. She looks like Lily. I shake off the feeling and smile at her.
"Good Morning, Mrs. DeFelice." I say, walking in between the rows towards my desk.
"How are you? There is also a matter I would like to discuss after school. Do not forget." she smiles one of her wide and calm smiles and starts the class."Now class let me take... " she begins.
I slide out of focus and start thinking about how to save Lily and Hazel. The giants already tried to trick me, (though the code was easy to crack.) The papers were many letters of past people and creatures living in that cell. . could they mean something? I can't figure it out now. The bell finally rings and I head off to my next class.
