I lean against the door to catch my breath as I try to process what had just happened. All of my thoughts are surprisingly still however, and I rush back to reality when I realize how much time must have passed.
I go down the hall to look at the clock. 7:08 it says. I rub my eyes with my hands, and take another look. 7:08. My mind starts to create waves of thoughts. How? Where? Why?
I slowly walk back towards the door, my legs threatening to crumble under me.
I grab the doorknob for support. I take a deep breath as I slowly turn it, afraid for everything to unfold all over again. I closed my eyes, ready to embrace what I thought was about to happen. I open the door, expecting to hear the sea angrily churning.
I instead open my eyes to kids walking to school in their plaid uniforms and white sneakers. I let my breath out.
Good. Everything is back to normal, but that doesn't explain why and how it happened, though.
Questions were still popping in my head as I walk out to the bus stop. I join my two friends, Kylie and Melinda as we ride to our school. I am surprised for Kylie and Melinda to be so quiet, as they usually are very open and unreserved. The ride goes on and we haven't said much of words to each other, and I can assume we're caught in our own thoughts. I know I am.
We walk in silence to our lockers, gather our books, and go to our homerooms. Kylie and Melinda have Mrs. Anderson. I have Mrs. DeFleice. I trudge off after saying a quick goodbye to Kylie and Melinda.
I briskly walked down the school hallways, risking my loose papers the chance to fly like birds on the tile flooring. Other students are already starting to file into their classrooms, so the halls were mostly empty.
I stop by the bathroom to quickly check my appearance. As I am doing so, I see a shadow behind one of the stalls. Upon noticing, I freeze. I swiftly put my lipstick in my bag and I start to walk to my classroom.
All of a sudden, I feel a slight pain in my knee. As I walk on, I felt it getting worse. I stop and let it rest for a few seconds.
As I start to get up again, I see a shadow creeping by the bathroom door. Curious, I steadily walk towards the shadow, my legs threatening to crumble under me. Then, I see the culprit. A grey tabby, with magnificent blue eyes appears behind the edge of the cracked door. I swallow my instinctive scream and I slowly walk closer and closer.
It's startling blue eyes look inviting and warm, even though the color was as if it was ice itself. Of fear and interest, I walk over to the fluffy specimen, and I hold out my hand. The cat immediately put it's head on my palm. As soon as I touch it, I feel my hand jerk forward as it pulls me in.
I try to pry my hand off but it doesn't work. I can't breath. I start frantically trying to get my phone out to text or call any number I got to first.
That's when everything stops spinning.
I look around and I see I'm back in the clouds. The tone is destressing. I immediately start to feel uneasy, and I promptly get a swarm of butterflies in my stomach. I touch my forehead, struggling to remember what happened.
Then, it hits me.
I look around for the tabby, hoping I wasn't alone in the formerly white, now black, clouds.
Instead, I find a striking young black woman, with piercing, sparkling blue eyes. She has a long, flowy, purple dress, decorated with periwinkle blue flowers. Her long, brown, wavy hair in a messy bun with two strands out in front. Her eyes have a never ending twinkle in them. She smiles and I can't believe how white and shiny and perfect her teeth are.
"Hello Ally."she says quietly. Her voice was as smooth as the night breeze. How does she know my name? I wonder.
"I am Lily. I am here to tell you about a destined adventure you're about to embrace."
"Wait, what? A destined adventure?" I ask, skeptical of what I see in front of me.
"Yes. They need your help. You must embark on a journey to the clouds, You will be a hero in what you call 'fantasy'. That does not mean it will be easy though. You will need to embrace great skill to overcome the hardships you will face. "
"Wait, what do you mean? Who's they? Where? How?"
Lily locks her eyes with mine, but says nothing. The twinkle hasn't left her eyes as she smiles softly.
She turns around and grabs a book. It looks rough and I can tell it's ancient. It has a scarred leather cover. The pages are stained with yellow markings, making the mature book seem like it would be ripped into millions of aged pieces of delicate paper.
Lily walks over to me, and then she gracefully puts the heavy book in my hands. Her soft palms brush my fingers, and she looks deep into my eyes. She then walks back to where I found her, her silky dress swishing as she walked with solitude.
"My dear, It is you and your beloved's time to shine." She looks deeper, my soul feeling her gaze. "Please, make my people proud." She says.
Her body starts to contortion back into a four legged tabby with a soft tail that swished around her small grey paws. Her blue eyes still watch me, as her apparition fades.
"But wait! I have more questions! Who is my beloved? Lily, please come back!"I shout, puzzled.
I extend my hand as if I were to grasp the air. Everything starts to grow darker, and dimmer. The kitten now looks more like a ghost then it does a breathing organism. I then find myself back in the hallway, crouched on the ground, holding my hand out to thin air.
